Incorrectly built Acadia

Have a couple of questions for anyone that may be able to answer them. We went to pick up our new Acadia today after waiting out a couple of snowstorms to get it unloaded from the train and to the dealership. Much to everyone's surprise when we arrived at the dealership, we noticed that the Acadia was not built like we ordered it. It was built with 7 passenger seating and we ordered it with 8 passenger seating. We had ordered it originally because it was hard to find a SLE with the 8 passenger seating and we really wanted the 8 passenger seating over the 7 passenger seating. I have a copy of the order that we placed and it clearly shows the ABC 8 passenger seating option on the order, but the vehicle that was delivered clearly does not have it. The dealer is trying to locate another one they can bring in with the correct options, but if that does not work out, we don't want to wait for another one to get built correctly. Here are my questions.

Has anyone ever heard of this before on the Acadia or similar model?

Will GM corporate help in anyway to remedy this situation versus putting everything on the dealer?

Thanks for your help.

It happens on occasion. Your options are really only what you've stated. See if the dealer can find one "close enough" on a lot, or wait out another build. GM might help the dealer cut 1 or 2 weeks off the build time but I'd be really surprised if there was any thing more they can expedite. The dealer might be will willing to broaden the boundaries of his usual search (which are typically no more than 50 or 100 miles) and suck up the extra shipping cost, but that is their call. I would certainly push them to search much wider, don't know if they'll really do it.

does the VIN # match the order #?
Maybe you can have the VIN # run by he member on here that can run the vin#...
BUt if you really wanted seating for 8--- maybe you should wait it out... you may regret taking the 7 seater

Good question, wonder if it really IS the right vehicle. Or, did the salesman "think" it was? Dealer trade is dumb, the whole reason you ordered is to avoid a vehicle coming from a long distance, etc.

Put the ball in the dealer's court; they need to make this right
Agree, but if it was me, I wouldn't take a stock unit....one of the main reasons we ordered was to get exactly like we wanted, number one, and number two...to have a fresh unit that hadn't sat on the dealer lot, and/or that had miles on it from test drives or dealer trading. Been there, done that....if I was this person I wouldn't take anything else but another ordered unit....but they should offer some discount for having to wait the 6 to 8 weeks again.

This happened to me back in 1995 when I bought my current GMC... Ordered it, went to the dealer to pick it up after 6 or 8 weeks, was all excited to get my new SUV.....and the interior color was wrong. I think in my case when we originally 'built' one to get pricing I wasn't sure what color I wanted so he just put the light gray interior but when I went to order I switched it the charcoal gray. I think he just forgot to hit 'save'. Anyway, they offered me $100 off to take the one that came and I said no, order me a new one. They did, although a couple weeks later they called and offered a little more to take the one that came but I still said no. So I waited, got it exactly as I wanted and just had to wait a few weeks. Given I'm still driving it 16 years later I'm glad I waited the extra 6 weeks and got what I wanted :) Hopefully when my new Acadia comes off the truck sometime soon it's the right one, but I'd do the same thing again if it isn't.

Long distance seems okay if they trailer it.

happened to me I ordered a 1991 Camaro RS v6 Teal Green loved that color and when it showed up it had a V8.. I was young so I just took the car and they did not charge me for the engine upgrade :)

Sucks I would just ask for $$$ compensation and just wait for it to be reordered.

You may want to look at the Traverses it is a bit easier to find 8 seating in them.

I'd stick with JohnC on this one. It's your money, your order and what you wanted - the dealer and the corporation have an obligation to honor your order. All you need is patience for the time to wait while your order is processed correctly. Have you ever turned away a 'cooked to order' item at a restaurant because it wasn't done the way you wanted it cooked? It's essentially the same thing!

But they won't, that never happens.
Agreed, I've looked at Enclave's and Acadia's with three and four hundred miles on them. When I asked how come all the miles, the salesman said "dealer trade" so who know how some young kid (who works part time at the dealer) drives them back to the lot-foot in the gas-stero blasting-pot hole hitting . My '07 OUTLOOK had 96 miles on it when I bought, I should of walked away :eek:hno:. My '09 had 11 miles on it :)

The dealers in my area hire retired people to drive the dealer trades, and to drive the vehicles that get purchased at the used car auctions. I assure you, they do not send the dealership porters (wash bay personnel) to get dealer trades.

There shouldn't be a lot of thought that goes into this. The dealer should honor your order. With that said, they should compensate you whether you decide to wait another 6 weeks, or whether you decide to take a stock vehicle. I would definitely put in a new order, you'll be sorry if you settle for anything less. Maybe they can give you a loaner till it gets there? Or $$$ compensation. Whatever to make it right and you happy. Otherwise, I'd find another dealer. It obviously was a dealer error. Highly doubt the factory made this mistake. Ask to see the submitted order and/or the sticker/invoice.

Go to the "Chat" link on the GMC web site, about the only thing they are good for is locating exactly what you want. They take your Zip code and do a much mor detailed search of color and options based on what you tell them. Good luck! I ordered our SLT1 on Friday, hopefully I'll only be the third or fourth person to sit in the seat after it gets off truck.

I'll bet if you tell them not to bother and please return your deposit, they will find a middle row bench seat fast.
:D Good point; force them to make this right

Thanks for all the quick feedback.

In short, yes it was the right VIN#. We had matched it to the order through the online tracking site. There is still some question as to how it did not get built right, but it really doesn't matter now.

The dealer was able to locate only one other vehicle within 800 miles with the same configuration. They did offer to pay to trailer it in, but it already had some miles on it and after discussing it more we decided we wanted what we ordered, a vehicle with basically no miles on it and one that had not been sitting on a lot somewhere for awhile.

We had to go to a different dealership to find one that had an immediate allocation for another Acadia. They placed the order on Thursday and we are set to go through the process again. Now if I could only find a way to have GMC guarantee me at least the same level of rebates I was going to get in February.

Now there's an idea, nice thought...maybe they can make that happen...although, you are at a different dealership....but maybe GMC itself can offer you the rebate, regardless of the dealer. Well, lesson learned from the other dealer, make a mistake and a customer goes elsewhere.

well keep checking the status of your new order. YOu have the order # right?
keep checking the next 10 days... and hopefully its built.
Its a long shot-- but worth trying for the rebates... if it is built- it will have a VIN# assigned.
That can be enough to get the financial paperwork started...
IF youre willing to 'pay' for it before it arrives?

I did this with our ordered Impala. qualified for the 0% on the last day with the cars VIN...
we didnt get the car for another 2 weeks. Some dealers wont do this for you though

Happened to me with my 2003 Sierra. Told the dealer I wanted a SLE six seater and left them with two pages of options stapled together. Salesperson was certain he had everything correct until I pointed out there were two pages, not one page of requested options. He also missed the turn signal options in the mirrors, extending towing mirrors etc.
A couple of times since we has had to take two vehicles on trips etc. Or had to really look while trailering. In hind sight I don't know why I didn't tell the dealership to stick the truck in their ear.

Well, we went and picked up our new Acadia last night and this one was built correctly. After 16 weeks, two orders, two blizzards, a couple of holidays, a supplier fire, and some other delays it was worth the wait. Especially getting to see my wife's face after we arrived back home.

My advice to all if anything similar ever happens, stick to your guns and get what you originally wanted. We have no regrets in waiting, but would have had regrets had we settled for something else when the first one was not built like we ordered it.
