It this noise is coming from the power steering, I have been through this with my 09. After two power steering pumps and a new steering gear, a change to synthetic power steering fluid, I have been told this is normal noise. Whine noise at low rpms.

I'm not sure, how would I check this? I know if I stand outside the vehicle it can be heard from the passenger side...any ideas? so yours does the same thing? this is annoying to me more than anything else. Maybe not to others but I would rather not have this noise...

If you do a search on this forum u will find that this is a common complaint. I just took mine in for the same thing and they followed the PTR and evacuated the system (air in the lines). My wife thinks that took care of the problem.

what was the problem to correct this? forgive me as I'm not sure what a ptr means so I want to be prepared when I bring it in again to get this corrected.

People will hear things a lot more on vehicles without belt-driven fans. Some of these noises are normal and wouldn't be heard at all if the fan was moving. The rush to try and correct 'normal' noises that people heard when car manufacturers made the switch to electric, thermostatically-actuated fans was pretty incredible. It takes some getting used to this. But if it's not grinding or screaming, deal with it.

Same whining noise. Here is the service notes I found. They performed the service and now no whining.

There are a couple of documents that deal with noise from the power steering system:

#PIT4537C: Whine Or Moan Noise From The Power Steering - keywords air bleeding fluid gear hose pinion pump rack turn turning wheel - (Feb 24, 2009) Fix: Bleed air from the power steering system.

#PIT4879: Power Steering Moan Or Whine Noise - (Jun 16, 2009) Fix: This noise may be caused by vibrations in the transfer lines on the steering gear. To fix this concern it will be necessary to add 1/4 inch fuel hose (part number 09439646) to the straight length of the transfer lines, using three tie straps per line to attach the hose to the transfer line. The fuel hose should be approximately 3 inches in length. It will be necessary to split the fuel hose down the center, so it can be wrapped around the transfer lines. The fuel hose should be attached to the transfer line in three places. The tie straps at the ends should be placed 5mm from the end of the hose.

Heard the 'whine' from someone's Acadia at a local Tim Hortons this past Friday as they pulled out onto the road (I was heading into grab a coffee...what else is new), probably 50 to 70 feet away from the vehicle at the time. I now understand why someone would want to get that rectified. Couldn't imagine how noisy it would be inside the vehicle.

It is indeed loud, annoying and embarrassing when you have passengers. But when I'm alone, I just turn the radio up. It was fixed for a while after they replaced the power steering pump, but then after the engine was removed to replace the timing chain, it came right back. *hmph*

Or, maybe some tubing wasn't aligned properly and produces a higher -pitched buzz while the engine is running! ???

Or maybe didn't do the 1/4" overfill.

I just had my Acadia repaired for this -- there were two whines. One in the power steering and one that grew higher pitched the faster I went. They did a power steering flush and replaced the right front hub ($750). They say the noises are gone but I don't know because when I went to pick up my car it wouldn't start. So it's back in the shop.

Do you mean it (the engine) would not turn over or it would turn over and just not start?

I heard some whining noise when my 07 Acadia is at stop. I checked and found out the steering fluid level was below the minimum, so I just added some fluid then the noise had gone. I did not see any leak and still surprise where fluid had gone. I had a Japanese car and never add any steering fluid for the past 6 yrs.

I had the same issue a very loud whine, was very annoying and a bit embarrasing being a new vehicle. The bleeding air from the line for the power steering makes absolutely no sense to me, unless you have a leak how would you have air in the line? I went out and purchased some lucas power steering fluid and removed the factory fluid and replaced with the lucas, whine is completely gone. The lucas is a much higher viscosity, incredible product. I have shared this with a few others who were having the same issue in this area and it worked for all.
