Transmission Rebuild / Replacement Cost? What's a fair price?

I am curious since So Many Acadia's seem to have the Wave Plate problem in the transmission, what is a fair price to pay for a transmission rebuild?
My Duramax with a Allison 6 speed cost me $3500 to rebuild. I can't imagine an Acadia Transmission would cost that much?

:eek:fftopic: question

Why would the Allison need a rebuild; I thought they were bullet proof

My Allison wasn't bullet proof. I use the truck a lot to pull a flat trailer and it finally gave out. Something came apart inside and wiped it out.
Goes to show you any transmission can break.
I had it rebuilt back with heavy duty parts and the final bill was $3500.
So, what's an Acadia going to cost when time to rebuild? I can't imagine it would be as much as the Allison.

I certainly wouldn't expect it to cost $3500; when the tranny in my 07 failed; it was still under warranty and I received a new unit. We have a member here on the forum (Keydiesel) that seems to have a lot of knowledge about the transmissions for this vehicle. I would PM them and see what information they can provide.

Keep us posted on the cost on the transmission.
Is it at a GM Dealer or at a Private Shop getting Repaired?
Is the transmission being Rebuilt or Replaced with a New one?
It is a GMC dealer. They said they will try tear into the tranny on Wed. After they do is when I'll have the diagnostic report. Hopefully a new one.

Good luck and I hope it is covered under the powertrain warranty.
What year is the Acadia and Be sure and let us know the cost for repairs.
I am goig to start a transmission rebuild fund since so many owners have problems.

GM might help since this is a WELL known problem and the Acadia is not that far out of warranty. I would call customer service for GM or better yet, there is a lady on here named Michelle who I think works for GM Customer Service that can probably help you out? I would search her name on this site and ask for help. It's worth a try and she seems like a really nice lady.

Used. One owner, mostly highway miles, all services were done at GMC, so I was told. The only thing I know for sure is the most common recall's/services had already been performed on it prior me taking ownership.

Help!

Hi Michelle,

On the way to work today, my 2013 Acadia started having problems with the transmission. In December I had in the dealership for a faulty sensor with the pedal. Just had it towed to a local dealership. It has just over 125,000 miles. I cannot afford a new transmission. What are my options???

Thanks,

Sick to my stomach

Just found this forum/thread and joined. I have recently purchased a 2008 SLT2 Acadia, and we just traveled to San Antonio from Dallas on a family trip to Sea World. Needless to say on our way back the transmission went completely out and left us stranded. Not even 2 weeks old and 95K miles on it. I also found out the 5yr warranty expired in February. Joy.

I have sent Michelle a PM so I'm really hoping something good comes out of this. Dealership is already quoting $3800 for a replacement....

I think there's a new girl from GM customer service and she doesn't help as much as Michelle did. Mostly just chimes in on people posting about their new Acadia and gushing about how great it looks.

Good luck to ya. If GM wont cover it have it towed to an independent mechanic. Don't pay dealer prices.

When my transmission went out in May at 106k the GM person Jessica on here wasn't helpful. I called GMC customer service and was able to get my issue escalated to a district representative who was very helpful and resolved my issue. I'm not saying GMC will pay for it but maybe they can put pressure on your dealer to assist financially with a contribution. I suggest pushing for a 3 way split with GM and the dealer and yourself...no it won't be an equal split.... Speak to GM about they contribute 25%, dealer 25% and you 50 %. The dealer and GM get out of it cheaper than that actually because they will get their 25% retail portions adjusted back to their cost prices.

A GM or good quality transmission will be close to $3000.00 +, depending where you live etc. That doesn't include labor. These 6 speeds are new & aren't your "Father's Transmission". The electronics in the new transmissions are about equal to the space shuttle. GM powertrain warranty is 5yr/100,000 miles. If my tranny even comes close to missing a beat before 100,000 miles it's going to the dealer for a new one. There's been way too many instances where the customer complains of an issue, the dealer can't recreate it, you continue to drive it right out of the warranty period & boom it dies & you're buying a tranny. Not just GM either Volvo is famous for this practice. It's difficult for most to be without their vehicle, the dealers know this & give you the can't find an issue line knowing you will take your car & drive it out of the warranty period. I have plenty of cars between myself & my kids & if issues show up, I'll fill the tank & leave my vehicle at the dealer until they find the issue. Anyone else may want to consider the same thing or take a chance & spend the big $$$. :thumb:

I have a 07 Acadia with 45,000 miles. I was told a few weeks ago when I took her in for a check engine light that I need a new transmission. I have had my unfair share of problems with our car and sort of wasnt shocked that we got another. And to find out that others have had the same problem with GM's faulty wave plates that go bad right after our warranty goes out. I was given the customer service 800 number from the dealer and GM has offered to pay a portion of the new transmission. But even the Customer service said they were a little shocked when our local GM service dept. told her as well as me that it would cost $5126.00 to replace the transmission. Does anybody out there know if I this is a fair price. I do feel that GM should fix the problem if even a mechanic at the GM shop says these due to a part that GM has fixed since the 09 models. What can I do other than fix it? We need the car to take the kids to school and I guess I need to find another job just to pay for a new transmission.
