I was just notified the 2012 nav disc is now available.

Aren't new owners supposed to receive an updated nav disc for free? I thought that I had read this in another posting here. Although this is my second Acadia, it is my first with nav.

My understanding on this is from when I had the Outlook with the NAV. The upgrade discs were free the first two years of ownership. Although I never could get GM to send me the upgrades and they do not just send them out without asking.

After the second year the cost is $200.00 for each upgrade disc.

This was my understanding also but when I sent an email to GM asking about an updated nav disc they now say it was for '07 models only!!! This REALLY SUCKS because the nav in my Acadia is horrendous! I was lookimg forward to the updated disc hoping it would improve my nav. What a waste of money. I don't know how GM can market such a lousy product!

WHAT? That makes absolutely no sense at all! :banghead:

The issue with not being able to get the NAV update disc was the main reason I did not get the NAV in the Enclave. Okay the cost was the secondary factor. Heck I purchased the GARMIN for around $250.00 and it comes with LIFETIME updates FREE!

All the issues we are complaining about, okay rather reporting, I cannot even imagine anyone getting a NAV in a lambda...like ever.

The NAV option is a waste of money if you asked me and I had it in my 2005 and 2008 Trailblazer. I didn't get it on my 2010 Acadia because at first I used On-Star turn by turn directions but my latest Android phones comes with navigation built into it at no extra monthly charge. ( Verizon phone ) I only get the basic On-Star plan for $150.00 per year now. ( list price is $200.00 but the will make you a deal if you complain ) With most new GM cars coming with a touch screen in the next few years I hope GM will drop the price of the NAV systems and lower the price on the update discs, it is really a screw job now with the money they charge.

I couldn't agree more!!! I am sorry that I wasted my money on this POS of a nav system!! And updates at $200 a piece is ridiculous!! I purchased a life time update for a Garmin that I have and it only cost me $99. GM really knows how to screw its customers!!

Where is the GM Customer service rep that is monitoring this site?? Care to chime in on this issue?

Hello all,

As was mentioned by MA Acadia, the OnStar Directions and Connections plan is a GM alternative to the navigation systems in the vehicles.

I understand the point you raise, however. Thank you for contributing to this conversation - I'm planning on passing along this input.

Best,
Sarah

I understand that the OnStar Directions and Connections plan is an alternative (at an extra cost) but why should we need to incur the extra cost when we already paid extra (alot extra) for the nav system? If the OnStar Directions and Connections plan was included with the basic plan, there would be no need for this discussion. The problem is that the nav disc becomes outdated and need to be updated periodically. For this update, there is a $200 cost which I find is unreasonable!!! As I mentioned in my previous post, Garmin provides lifetime updates for $99 which in my mind is the best way to keep customers happy- not the $200/update GM way!!!

One more unhappy customer.
I bought my '09 Acadia new. New roads here in Phoenix abound, in that time, plus I travel 20,000 miles a year.
I am another guy that -- 2 months ago -- paid $120 for a Garmin with lifetime FREE updates to maps and traffic.
I think the $199.95 that GMC quoted me is OUTRAGEOUS.

Is the 2012 update disc an updated interface (better map views) or just an update to new roads? I have to admit, I was extremely disappointed with my Acadia Navigation user interface, maps, etc. Garmin is light years ahead of GM Nav systems and they cost a tenth of what a new navigation costs in a new GM vehicle.

I think the main reason it's like that is because the system is DVD based; there's only so much information you can pack on a DVD. I would bet hard drive based systems (Dodge Challenger) would have more detail

What does Garmin do that makes it so much better than GM's nav at a fraction of the cost and much better interface? The GM system is extremely inflexible. Once you input a destination, if you vary from their route it keeps trying to send you its way.

Sure- now you tell me!!! :D :D
My wife was begging for the in dash unit when we ordered our 08 and the salesman actually talked us out of it. Good thing - I wish he had also talked us out of the DVD player which never gets used.

OK, I popped for the 2012 disc (probably stupid on my part) and I can't tell any difference.  My street which is about 8 years old and it still isn't listed.  I have one of the android phones from Verizon (Thunderbolt) and the mapping program in it works great.

I would complain and ask for a refund. If your street is 8 years old and it isn't listed, something is wrong. Just another example of what a POS the GM nav is. JMHO.

I thought there were only two or three map providers regardless of GPS brand - wonder if GM uses something else?
