Are you on an incline when you park? If I'm on an incline when I park, it will sense this and automatically apply it, which is fine with me. I think you can turn that feature off in the settings. Mine is a 2017 for what it's worth.

 

Maybe a slight incline in my garage but not when I am at the store or out running around. I will check the manual thank you 😊

 

In the 3 years I have had my '18, it has done that once and I was stopped on a slight uphill incline.

Prior to the Acadia, I had a Cadillac CTS. On that vehicle it would routinely auto set the parking brake. I chalked it up to a Cadillac thing.

 

My 2021 seems to randomly set it as well. I have heard it set the parking brake while opening the rear door or hatch. Also just like you I have came out to the vehicle and it has set itself at some point. I did also find out that if you put it in gear and tap the gas it will automatically release it as well. Not sure if it is working as intended or not. I can say the 2020 I had did not every do this.

 

From page 208 of the 2020 Acadia Owner Manual:

”The vehicle may automatically apply the EPB in some situations when the vehicle is not moving. This is normal, and is done to periodically check the correct operation of the EPB system.”

 

You’re welcome. I think it’s just the computer “exercising” the system occasionally for those of us flatlanders who rarely use the parking brake.

 

As others have noted, that's likely the Automatic Vehicle Hold being activated. If it releases when you touch the gas, that's what it is.

If you press off without going into park first it will put the vehicle in park, and engage the parking brake. I do that all the time...but our driveway is on an incline.

 

I have a 2020 Acadia Denali and it engages the electronic parking brake as soon as I put the vehicle in Park. After shifting to Drive, it disengages as soon as I accelerate. I love the feature, since I don't have to worry about remembering to engage or disengage the parking brake!

 

Guessing this is all in the DIC menu, each user can set it how they like.
