Wondering if anyone else is having trouble with paint chipping on their 2014 Acadia? I have had my new Acadia for 2 months, it has 1,700 miles on it and when I washed it this weekend I noticed that the paint has chipped down to the metal on the back by the bottom/side of the door. It is actually down to the metal!! I am just sick about this! I had a 2010 Acadia (bought it brand new) traded it in at 70,000 miles and not one single chip! I drove it in all weather conditions and this one has barely been out of the garage and already is chipped like it is 3 years old. Cant imagine what it will look like in a year. :angryfire:
You buy a four wheel drive to DRIVE in winter weather conditions, IT SHOULD hold up!!!!

so its chipping in the area that gets 'sandblasted' by the tires?

Was the other vehicle also black?

you have several option...
1)Go back to dealer and see what they say--- I doubt theyll repaint. but who knows.

2)apply some of that clear covering that they sell-- to cover the hood to prevent chipping...

3) check out this product I saw yesterday.... Armor all makes a spray that you can spray on--- and peel off..
so maybe during winter you can spray it on--- and then pull it off..
Called Custom Shield

they have Black, white, CLEAR, grey.

Hey RB, thanks for posting the Armor All stuff. That looks like really cool stuff. I could see many applications for that like rear bumper where you load and unload stuff. The would lessen the amount of scratches. The same would go for interior sill plates. I might have to get a can when it finally un thaws here.

Are the lower portions of the Traverse and Acadia the same?
(or was it the Enclave that has painted lower cladding)

The SLE and SLT have the gray plastic trim at the bottom and Denali has the painted. I like the SLT for the fact that it's the gray plastic and will take some abuse from rocks and not chip and rust. My old Envoy was all painted and chipped. But i think the Denali that is painted is plastic too?

As for chipping, i notice mine has a lot of chips in it already for being a year old. But it's red and i'm comparing it to a silver Envoy where i probably didn't notice the chips as easily. i did have one chip the dealer repaired for free because it was in a seam where a rock didn't do it. They repainted just that area and it looks perfect. i also have the color matched paint i hit the chips with and then with some clear and it blends well.

So, did you have the dealer fix it? It could very easily been a defect in the paint process. Maybe some production oil in the body before it hit the paint shop. Pretty easy to fix.

Remember these things aren't electro-plated or powder coated, paint chips, easily I might add, under the right conditions.

No matter it's really not a reason to get "sick" over.

FYI_--

I was at Wal Mart today-- and saw in the automotive section- that 3M has a similar product. Spray on protector- this one was CLEAR.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I have an appointment tomorrow with the dealer that I purchased the vehicle from. Seemed to be very cooperative on the phone so far. So..... I will keep you updated on how it goes.

I purchased a 2014 Acadia, Carbon Black Metallic Paint on 31 Jan 2013. Living in Michigan we had a tough winter with a TON of snow. From clearing the snow off with a snow broom, my car has MULTIPLE scratches in it. I know for a fact I was NOT scrubbing my car hard for this to happen. I am concerned b/c this is a lease. I have a feeling the dealership is going to hold me responsible, however, I feel I am no way, shape, or form responsible for this damage – that it is a manufacture problem. I kept telling my husband about the issue and he thought I was “exaggerating” and that he could buff out the scuffs. Well this weekend he hand washed my car – well enough, he said to me “we have a problem, the scratches are all the way down to the metal.” He also believes this is a paint job issue. Any suggestions?

i would also blame the manufacturer of the broom you were using. how dare they not make their bristles soft enough to not scratch your car. i bet it's a conspiracy between GM and the broom maker.

This pic is one of the more serious cases, but scratches all over similar to this. The snow removal tool has been used on my previous cars and another vehicle we currently have and no problem. This was done while using the snow broom during extreme cold days. Not sure if weather conditions matter?

Well- very cold weather- could have made the brush bristles harder.

But on a black car.. even gently washing- scratches will begin to show over time.
Some folks even use the 2 bucket system to leave dirt on 1 bucket and not scratch the paint.

i have a 2014 acadia denali. carbon Black. I live in the desert and the car is garaged at home and at work. i have 6000 miles on it.. There are multiple chips on the edge of the car door. Anywhere there is a very narrow edge, i see the miniscule chipping. Also, something dinged the passenger side of the car while parked at the market and a huge 1/4 diameter of paint came off to the metal,. I have had many cars, all black, and i have never seen anything like this. i am afraid to do anything but a hand wash. This is not normal. My husband is going in for first service today and will see what the dealership says.

I love this car, havent had any other problems,. This is my second acadia , my 2008 paint job seemed much better but was the other black. I think it has something to do witht the metallic nature of this paint.,

A few people have said the scratches/chips are down to the metal. Are you sure it's down to the metal and not the primer? Just trying to get a feel for how bad it is. Down to the metal seems more likely for a chip than a scratch from a brush.

I have the white diamond paint and its been nothing but problems. Paint chipping off, and areas where the paint is pulling away by the bumpers. Another area to look is around the headlights, they all chip around there because the lights are too tights to the car.

White diamond and carbon black both have the flecks metallic properties, I am starting to think there is something wrong with the quality of this paint.

My paint didn't chip, but the paint bubbled on my hood by the chrome deflector. It's under warranty and getting repaired. I have a 2011 Acadia, Carbon black metallic. However, my husband has a 2011 silverado and his truck has tiny perfect round circles where the paint came off right to the metal. The dealer's explanation for that was rocks, which we don't agree with.
