BLUE, FIRST OFF I DO LOVE THE DEEP BLUE METALLIC, HOWEVER, I FEEL, THE SILVER GREEN IS MORE "GIRLY" THE MGR. SAID I WILL HAVE TO CALL BACK AND TALK TO THE "GUY" WHO DOES THE ORDERING. HE SAID, WHAT THEY PROBABLY WILL DO IS SWITCH ONE OF THEIR "GOING TO ORDER CARS" WITH THE ONE I WANT, WITH THE OPTIONS I WANT. I HAVE TO CALL THE "GUY" ON TUESDAY. I PUT DOWN $500 REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT. OPTIONS INCLUDE: SKYSCAPE, VISIBILITY PKGE, POWER LIFTGATE, TRAILERING EQUIPMENT. THANKS FOR THE FEEDBACK.
I BEG YOUR PARDON. I RESEMBLE THAT REMARK!!!! >:D
What? :) I couldn't hear you over all the shouting here.

No hidden agenda on this one.
YOU CAN KEEP TRYING BLUE BUT I DON'T THINK SHE IS TAKING THE BAIT ON THIS ONE... ;)

With that said, I think I have some barbie dolls I need to be playing with...

Wow!!!! This thread is getting interesting....

demi,

Please refrain from making insults to other members, consider this your only warning. Also, ALL CAPS means you are shouting. Please use proper case, it is much easier on the eyes... :thumb:

In response to your inquiry of August 9th:
:deadhorse:
The guy at Schepel did supply me with a faxed copy of what appeared to be a computer generated on-screen inquiry from his dealership. It listed the year, model, base configuration, and available options (the ones that I chose). I noticed that several of the options listed should have been part of certain "package options", but in this instance it looked like they were individual choices. Basic things such as engine, transmission, color and trim were listed with their respective codes. (All these codes checked out with the official on-line GMC Standard and Optional Equipment Ordering website.) :)
The document also contained a Production Status Code of 3000 (Aceepted by Production Control). But, there was no date on the document other than the date that the "search" was done (7/31/2008). There was my official Order Detail/Order Number listed on the document, along with my name and address. ???

:blahblah:
My problem came when I continued to inquire about an update on status, the last of which was last week. The dealer informed me that he did not know the status; he claimed that his truck salesman actually had the invoice, but he was unavailable; that he would contact me once the document was located; that the GMC factory had held production until August 18th or 25th; when I inquired about the actual list of option sent to GM, he sent me the standard Pricing Summary/Selected Model and Options listings dated June 3, 2008 (without any prices) showing original data was entered on May 27, 2008. ???

Now that I think about all this (in hindsight) he may have actually been trying to take care of business, and perhaps there were some misunderstanding. I am willing to concede that when a customer really wants a product he can sometimes appear to be impatient. :hyper: Perhaps I was projecting some impatience (but I made a conscious effort not to). I think that after there were several instances of miscommunication (the actual date of order, the failure to produce the invoice as promised, the change in production date and projected delivery) then I felt I had enough. (His attitude, whether I misread it or not, played a part).
This all could have worked out if our communication had been better (maybe). I detected an attitude of indifference, but perhaps it had something to do with the "e-mail" gap in correctly projecting one's real intention or mood. Those things may have been lost in translation. ???

Either way, I have to start all over again. :(

Note: Someone suggested to me that the order I placed, had I been more patient, would have arrived by sometime next week. :banghead:  Oh, well. :(

You are correct about computers not conveying attitudes. This holds true in that you can be the worst slob in the world that has ordered a GMC, but once it is ordered / in the system, the computer doesn't care if it is for you or GAR (well, actually that is not true, a bad example- let's say it doesn't care if it is for me ;)). What I'm getting at here is your patience/impatience has nothing to do with when the vehicle would be built/delivered, other than the dealer could back lot it and not tell you it was there, thereby cutting off his nose to spite his face, since he isn't getting paid for it and is paying for it via floor plan fees.

Your initial paperwork should have an 1100 code on it once the order was placed by the dealer. As far as I know, this is universal based on the software used. For you to have 3000 means you are several steps along, and as far as I know that vehicle will be built. There should also be an "Age of order" field on there somewhere. Mine showed as 1100 and 0, since I got it the day it was ordered.

My salesman has emailed me that he will have info on it this week. He also handled an odd email I got from the dealer due to an inexperienced person. As I said in my main purchase thread, I like to deal with people that know what they are doing. I think you can get that vibe even via email. My guy has always been upfront, even when it was bad news like our trade-in truck only being worth $2,500~3K. A customer doesn't want to hear "I don't know", and most salesmen will say "I'll find out". Great salesmen will find out AND get back to you ASAP. Being a computer buff, from what I've seen of the OrderWORKBENCH system, it is like any other data system, like Edmunds, you enter the data and it responds. There can always be comm issues, but they usually don't last more than a day or so, even for rural dealers.

In the end, it is of course your call, but based on what you posted here, I think you have made the right one by bailing & starting over.

OK, I got some "inside" production numbers from a plant worker:

We build about 836 units a day and work Saturday with 28% Enclaves, 53% Acadias and 18% Outlooks.

Keep in mind daily totals can and will change!

This backs up my 800 per day estimate. However, the sequential numbers at the end of the VIN must be shared between lines, so if you have VIN xxx8001, it is the 8001st Lambda, not the 8001st Acadia.

Still a lot of vehicles anyway you look at it.

Also, the source said there is no delay for the HUD as had been speculated in another thread.

I thanked him for the info, and don't want to bug him with a bunch of other questions since he is obviously busy (in a good way).

Oh man--here we go again.... :eek:hno:

Wow!!! What did I just walk into?

Somebody seems to be sort of angry about something. Guess I missed it further down the string.

Anyway, thanks Blue. What you posted is enlightening and supportive. ;D

Blue,

You are correct in surmising that the VIN sequence runs across the Lambda platform-mates. I came across an GM document that explained it, but I cannot find it now.

That was the only conclusion I could arrive at due to the VINs I was seeing listed as being in inventory after 10 days + of production.

Do you know if GM always did things like this? I know on my oldies (65 + 66) they added 100,000 to start the sequential VIN, then on the final year of production they added 600,000 (only built 6K the final year). It was easy to see if your 1965 Corvair/Chevy 2/Impala VIN ended 1234 that you had the 1,234th unit of that model built that year.

I just placed my order yessterday and was given a deivery date of Oct 1st hope that helps give some an idea of build and ship schedules. I hope it arrives for then as I need it for our 3 week holiday starting Oct 10th.
