We have a trailer with a 7 wire harness. The standard four wires for trailer lights plus a positive and negative from the battery and one wire for the trailer brakes.
When ordering the optional trailer package, are all seven wires working and ready to go or do I need to get a third party to do some extra wiring to have the brakes and power wires working?

Thanks for your input.

Either you or your dealer can install a Trailer Brake controller. You can also enlist an independent shop to do it as well. All that is involved is connecting four wires and mounting the controller. There is an extension harness in either your glove box or rear stowage area. That hooks up to the controller, then plugs into the convienience center under the dash by your left foot.

They should all work with the exception of the trailer brake controller from the factory; however, many (if not all) have a defective backup circuit. It requires a jumper and reprogramming to make it work. There is a TSB about it posted in the "dinghy towing" thread. Check it with a voltmeter and if it doesn't work take it to the dealer for the repair. If you only need four pins for light towing, it won't make a difference but if you need the backup circuit to deactivate surge brakes, then it will require repair.
