Sirius XM not connecting

250 Views 21 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  divotdug
I have a 2009 Acadia SLE with built in Sirius XM, I think they all had that, with a standard head unit. I have a SiriusXM subscription and I’ve tried to get it connected to my car and it wouldn’t work so I contacted their customer support and they tried to get me to send multiple refresh signals and it still wouldn’t work. Anyone know why it isn’t connecting?

Did it use to connect?

On an '09, I might look for an issue with the SXM antenna connection.
How do I check the sxm antenna connection? I haven’t had sxm since I’ve been driving the car so I don’t know if it worked before or not.
If I recall correctly, the SXM module was behind the left rear quarter panel plastic trim. I believe that is the area where the jack is stored.

Are you the original owner?
No. I’m the third owner. Kind of. We got it used back in like 2013 then my mother drove it for a while and I started driving it in 2021
Did the SXM folks say they were able to successfully send the refresh signal?

I’m not sure off the top of my head what they said. I’m going to retry connection later

Update, I learned it used to be connect to sxm once upon a time, sxm subscription was canceled and after that it hasn’t connected since.

What should I check the module for anyway? How would I tell if it’s bad or not or if the radio antenna connection is bad?
I'm not sure there is a way for you to actually test the module. I would be more inclined to believe the connections or the ground are corroded on an '09.

Ok. What about grounds. Do I have to take apart the module to check it.
I would say no. The module is most likely grounded to the body as part of the module mounting.

Ok. I thought of something else. The car has a whine when I press down on the accelerator, it gets higher pitched the higher my rpm goes. It also has a CANbus code, U0073, could that be the source to my problem?
That would certainly be a place to start. U0073 is a generic communications error between modules.

My understanding is that it's a pain in the butt to diagnose.
Wonderful. Any idea where I should start?
I would start by doing a google search of GM U0073.

Ok. I got a new Ecm programmed and put in the car for other reasons and now the sxm works.
Update, turns out SXM just had a week of free listening. Now I’m back to square one of not being able to connect to my radio.
If it worked during free week then you know everything is working OK.

Are you sure your account is linked to the correct radio ID?
