'Service Airbag' light

My 'service airbag' light has been on for a few months. Finally took it in to the dealership, they wanted $900+ to repair. I paid the $115 diagnostic fee, they gave me the part #, which i ordered from a GM parts website.

I replaced the sensor in the passenger seat today. Took an hour or so.

How do it re-set the 'service airbag' light so it no longer illuminates?

I believe someone will need to let the car know it has a new part (calibrate/program with Tech II or like tool).

:search: "passenger presence module" in the forum to see what others have gone through when they had that work done.

I don't know about whether an auto repair shop has this equipment which dealer use to reset the light after the new passenger presence seat is replaced. It has costed me $100 to have the dealer to do it. Since I know the problem, I bought the passenger presence sensor part then take it to dealer and tell them reset the light.
I've had my airbag light on for a while and I know it's not safe, want to fix asap. I noticed the passanger airbag always shows as not working regardless of whether or not someone is sitting in it and the airbag light is permanently on. Anyone know how to tell if it is the passanger airbag sensor or the sdm airbag module that is at fault? Or maybe something else? My neighbor owns a pretty high tech scan tool which could not communicate with my airbag system to give me an error code.
I know this post maybe old but I hope someone will see this comment helpful.

Hello guys, I also encountered the airbag light on my GMC and tried fixing it myself. Then when I could not find the issue, I tried researching on google and I came across the GMC Airbag Light On by YOUCANIC. After reading this, I did check other causes that I did not know. Then I saw a damage wiring on the weight sensor of my GMC. The YOUCANIC article just help me saved a few bucks, I really recommend the YOUCANIC website because it is so easy to understand and also can help you save a few bucks.
Hmmm, previous poster in Phillipines... trying to drive visits to the mentioned website?
Im sure not gonna visit.
A little odd.

I thought the same thing. YOUCANIC seems to be a legit website, based in MD, with an A+ BBB rating.

They do sell what looks to be a nice scan tool. I suspect orders for it are fulfilled from someplace other than their business address. It's an office building that I once worked in.

Looks like it was once sold on Amazon.

They also offer many YouTube videos for the DIYer.
@divotdug thank you for explaining this.

I'm not a poser, just wanting to help others.
