I have just purchased a 2012 Acadia LT1 and am having a problem with a rattle when I accelerate from a stop. I took the Acadia to the dealer yesterday and was told this is a problem that is in all of the V6 motors and was taken for a ride in a Buick enclave and it did have the same problem. this happens when taking off from a stop and seems to go away at about 30 mph not sure if it is a knock or a rattle but it is fairly consistent. was wondering how many others have this noise

Can't say that I have that noise when accelerating. Can you have a different dealer take a look at it?

I have referred it to GMC and am waiting for the district service rep to call me back. was just trying to see how widespread this is. the service manager at the dealer said they have tried rebuilding one engine and replacing one and the noise remained. have talked to GM customer service and they have reffered it to the district. Will post what they answer probably next week now.

I dont have a rattle on my Traverse.

BUT---
Is this EVERYTIME you accelerate...
or only on the 1st acceleration every time you restart car?
If its the 1st acceleration--- there is a self test that occurs at about 20 MPH.
The self test is for the Stabilitrack.ABS system.
You can hear it- and feel it in the brake pedal.

Heard this a lot more on my '07 Acadia but there is very little, if any, discernable noise on my '11 Acadia.

I hear a noise at acceleration in my MIL's '08, but I wouldn't call it a "rattle" or "knock", sounds like ordinary engine noise to me. Kinda like my dads Buick, the motor is just "throaty", like most American cars.

speaking of engine noise...

My traverse has the single exhaust...
with the new Toyo tires I put on...
on the highway- during certain shifts-- I can hear the change in sound from the exhaust.
these tires are quiet enough - that I can hear that change in tone from the exhaust... but the vehicle is wayyyy quieter.

I miss that sound, my Dodge Ram had dual 2" pipes with flowmasters, nice sound from that Mopar V8...I wish the Acadia had a V8, I would throw a flowmaster kit on it if it did...

ohhh-- just to clarify-- its not a loud exhaust sound..
not sure people in the car can hear it...

but I can..

I can also hear the buzzing sound the theater dimming does when it dims.
I can hear little buzzing sound from the engine compartment when hood is up..

and I Just heard my LED flashlight- buzzing when I go from bright, to dimm, to really dim....

@whopper2, it seems as though you’re on the right track with having your concerns with a district specialist. I hope things will get resolved quickly for you.

Same Issue

I've recently got a 2012 Acadia and it does the same thing. I get the same noise.

I have noticed though, that if I turn the traction control off, I don't get the noise as loudly as when its on.

I've been told "front wheel drive vehicles are weird this way", as this seems to be common for front wheel drive vehicles.

I just want to make sure it's not something that needs to be fixed by a mechanic.

I had that problem with a vehicle once. Anytime under heavy acceleration it would knock. However, it was not the vehicle's fault. I had taken a 196 0 Buick Invicta with the 300hp engine to Okinawa. There was no premium gas on Okinawa!!! Unfortunately I had never received my sponsors letter informing me of what was good to bring and what was not good to being. George

"Knock" vs "Rattle"-----

Now I also have the "knock" noise, but I've been told by the GMC dealer that this is because this engine does not have injectors, it has direct injection (whatever that means), which causes the knocking noise in the engine.

The noise I'm talking about for me, is it sounds like someone is banging on the frame with a metal hammer. I've been told by different mechanics that looked at it, that its this problem or that problem. So one mechanic says it's the steering linkage.....so I take it to a front end mechanic, and he says no, its not linkage, it's this......so I take it to that kind of specialist, and they tell me no its this not that...........and so on and so on.

I just finally gave up. If it blows up or breaks down, fine........at least I will know for SURE what the heck it is then!!!!!

the engine has injectors.
Direct injection means the fuel is sprayed (injected) straight into the combustion chamber-- vs the old method- of outside of the cylinder
