Hi,

Although I don't consider myself new to the board, this is my 1st time posting. I'm very interesting in the SLT-1 version of the Acadia and have been my doing homework as many of you have done also. While I believe that I have a grasp on the MSRP vs. Invoice price for the SLT-1 equipped as I'd like, I have not been able to nail down the "Factory Holdback Charges" for the SLT-1. If anyone would be gracious to provide that information I would be most appreciative.

By the way, I'm in the metro Houston area, and received the following quote from a local GMC dealer (I've included the associated invoice information from Edmunds as a reference):

Acadia SLT-1 AWD 7 Seat Carbon Metallic w/Brick Int.

INVOICE MSRP

Base Price $31,065.00 $33,225.00
Options
Dual Skyscape Sunroof $1,079.00 $1,300.00
DVD Rear Entertainment System $1,075.00 $1,295.00
Convenience Package $361.00 $435.00
Head-Up Display $291.00 $350.00
Power Liftgate $291.00 $350.00
115V Power Outlet $145.00 $175.00
19" Wheels $1,075.00 $1,295.00
Wheel Content Credit -$498.00 -$600.00

"Option Credit??" (Not sure why, but dealer included this -$)
-$1,000.00 -$1,000.00
Total Price of Options $2,819.00 $3,600.00

Total Base Vehicle & Option Price
$33,884.00 $36,825.00

The "offer" the dealer gave me was 35,601.38 (incl dest. charges) plus ttl

All available rebates at the time of acquistion would be applicable.

Assuming a factory holdback cost of $1,111.80 and a profit of 3%, my counter offer (incl. dest. charges) would be $34,490.

1) Any thoughts on the dealer's offer? 2) Would I be crazy for making such a counter offer? Given that I'm unsure of the exact factory holdback I don't know if I'm bargaining from the "true" bottom price.

Again any feedback would be appreicated. Sorry for the length of this initial post.

I notice your pricing does not include any regional advertising fees. Whether they are a real cost or not the dealers try to add them to the invoice. Just watch out when bargaining down to near invoice price. Edmunds and KBB don't include them or mention them prominenly so they're easy to forget.

I would counter offer for invoice + local advertising. Many of the people on this forum have been able to buy at or below invoice in different areas of the country, so it's worth a shot. I have also found that the closer to the end of the month you get, the better your chances of getting what YOU want price-wise.

I am not in the business, but I have read that dealer holdbacks are usually 3-4%. I'm not sure if that's based on retail MSRP or invoice. But, don't quote me.

Does the 3% GM holdback amount include the floorplan fee/wholesale financial reserve? If not, anyone know what amount that is on the Acadia?

I don't think the floorplan reserve is included in the 3% holdback amount.....here's why i come that conclusion.....

Since we were doing GMS pricing my dealer had little to hide so he gave me copy of the vehicle invoice.....here's a summary of what I saw on the Invoice for my specific vehicle:

MSRP
MSRP (before destination charge) = 36,960.00
Destination Charge = 735.00
Total MSRP = 37,695.00

INVOICE
Base Invoice = 34,441.93
Destination Charges = 735.00
Dealer Adv Fee = 369.60 = 1.0% MSRP (before destination charge)
Group Adv Fee = 277.20 = 0.75% MSRP (before destination charge)
Total Invoice = 35,823.73...this was the amount that the dealer was to remit to GMAC

Within the "Total Invoice" amount is the holdback....my holdback was....

Holdback = 1,108.80 = 3% MSRP (before destination charges)...no floorplan charge (interest)

But there was also a MEMO titled "TOTAL LESS HOLDBACK AND APPROX WHOLESALE FINANCE CREDIT ".....this was the actual amount that the dealer appeared to be paying to GMAC...

TOTAL LESS HOLDBACK AND APPROX WHOLESALE FINANCE CREDIT = 34,186.55 this is 1,637.18 less than the "Total Invoice" of which 1,108.80 is the holdback.......so the balance of 528.38 must be the "Wholesale Finance Credit"...

Don't know how they calculate the wholesale finance credit...it supposed to represent few months interest charges on the vehicle...represents 1.47% of "Total Invoice" amount...

So it looks like the dealer intially pays "Total Invoice" and eventually gets the holdback and a finance credit....so if the dealer sells the vehicle as soon as it comes in the door, they incur minimal finance charges and the finance credit is mostly profit.

Here's what the bottom half of the Invoice actually looked like....with a few modifianctions to VIN and Dealer name

MSRP INVOICE INVOICE
TOTAL MODEL & OPTIONS 36960.00 34441.93 ACT 237 34068.13

Carbuyingtips.com is another great resource for gathering this type of information. They even have a couple of free excel spreadsheets to download for compiling the information into your final offer. I bought 2 cars in the past using the info provided and got excellent results.

Best of luck!
