My father’s 2011 Traverse had the low fuel light pop on me on the interstate and I knew from my Acadia that I had roughly 25 miles to exit and find a station. 7 miles later we’re dead on the side of the road totally empty. Luckily we were towing his motorcycle home from Florida so unload and run for 2 gallons.
My theory is the low fuel light uses an algorithm like the miles to empty. It triggers at a set amount of fuel left like 1 gallon and depending on your recent driving cycle that determines how many miles you get until it shuts down. Towing a large trailer with a 3 wheel bike and a vertical ramp that was a parachute really affects mileage.
