First, it's great to see such an active forum for a new domestic vehicle. This bodes well for the Acadia's success. Most domestic models can be on sale for years without generating a forum as active as this one.

Seeing how active this forum is, I hope people here can help out. In late 2005 I started conducting my own reliability research because what's out there today isn't very good. I'm reporting absolute stats like "times in the shop" that will make the differences between cars much clearer. Relative ratings obscure too much--how large is the difference between "better than average" and "worse than average"? I’ll also be updating results four times a year.

I'm very grateful that the admin of this forum sees the value in this research, and has been very helpful.

Participants report repairs the month after they occur on a one-page survey. When there are no repairs, they simply report an approximate odometer reading four times a year, at the end of each quarter.

To encourage participation, panel members receive full access to the results free of charge.

Details: Car reliability research

Update: TrueDelta now has a separate results page for each model that includes the scores of competitors for easy comparisons. The one for the GMC Acadia:

Re: GMC Acadia reliability - how will it compare? Want results in May?

Hi mkaresh. I actually stumbled across your website while researching the Acadia (although I believe your info was on the Outlook only at the time). Very interesting idea. Could you give us a little more in-depth description on what would be involved in submitting info to you? It would be nice to know exactly what kind of time commitment it would take to satisfy your needs. I'm sure you will most likely get some Acadia owners to participate here. It's a brand new vehicle, but some of us are already rabid fans ;)

Welcome to acadiaforum.net, btw!

Thanks for the welcome.

If you click on the link in the OP, you'll find a page that describes what the research involves.

The basics:

1. Respond the first month and then at the end of every quarter with an odometer reading, partly so I would you're alive and still participating

2. Fill out a one-page survey each time the vehicle goes into the shop for a problem (not maintenance)

Survey here: http://www.truedelta.com/survey.php

Once the sample sizes are larger, this survey will permit me to provide a lot of different info. Right now I'm reporting average number of shop trips that included a successful repair.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

I signed up. . .
but as good as the Acadia seems to be thus far, maybe . . .
just maybe, we'll never have any problems/fixes to add to that site!

To be clear, even if you have no problems a response is required the first month and at the end of every quarter. It's very quick, just an approximate odometer reading, but it lets me know you're still alive and participating.

Up to 11 Acadias and 14 Outlooks. We're probably already too late in the quarter to have results in May, but August is all but certain. The more there are, the more precise the results will be.

Edit: Scratch that. There will be results in May.

Re: GMC Acadia reliability - how will it compare? Want results ASAP?

Thanks for the sticky. The admin for this forum has been very supportive. It's not hard to see why this forum is doing so well so soon.

Up to 13 Acadias and 20 Outlooks.

GMC sold twice as many of their car last month. So the GMCs should be able to catch up!

Hey new Acadia Owners - I just filled out my March update form for http://www.truedelta.com and it reminded me to make sure new owners know about this fantastic resource and appeal to you to make it even better by signing up. Not only is this site already a great resource for comparing the true cost of ownership between various models in a real apple-to-apples manner, but he's also compiling a massive database of real user maintenance and reliability information directly from car owners. Basically, this is sort of a next generation high tech "consumer reports" database that will benefit both potential car buyers who want accurate dependability information on cars they are comparing, as well as feedback to manufacturers on how well their cars are performing. The more WE, as consumers, know, the better they'll need to be to gain our trust and earn our money.

As far as I know, acadiaforum.net has already amassed the largest collection of GMC Acadia owners anywhere online, so it's up to us to represent our favorite Crossover at truedelta.com. I challenge every Acadia owner to check out mkaresh's site and sign up to participate in his monthly survey. It's very quick and easy and has the potential for real benefit down the road. I'd love for us to hit 100% participation!

Thanks guys,
admin

Re: GMC Acadia reliability - how will it compare? Want results ASAP?

I have had my Acadia for about six weeks. The car has about 1800 miles currently. I am very pleased with the handling and the interior layout. The paint is excellent but the body fitment is only fair to good and certainly not up to the standards of my Acura. The outside temperture display is erratic and will have to be corrected under warranty. The power of this vehicle is disappointing. The transmission hunts in and out of high gear constantly on flat ground and the passing power is just not there. Overall I think this is a very good vehicle, but either needs to be lighter or have more horsepower. As is I feel the performance is marginal at best. I probably would not buy this car again unless the performance is improved upon.

Have you had the transmission recall done?

Not sure about a recall but there is a software update for the eractic tranny. Check to see if it might have been updated at the factory. The Acadia is not alone. Toyota Highlander, Camry are having numerous tranny issues. The MazdaCX9 has a 6 speed and to date the eractic shifting has been noted by reviewers. It appears these 6 speed auto trannys are having issues. In my opinion too many gears hunting. More in this case may not mean better. Give me a 5 speed any day. Go to www.edmunds.com
