Has anyone experienced issues getting the gas door to open? Winters here are very cold, and I'm thinking the mechanism may be freezing. Any thoughts/suggestions? I think the design was a bit short-sighted!

Even covered in ice, all I had to do was bap the ice off it and then press it to make it open. No issues as of yet.

No issues yet, and I've had multiple vehicles that open the same way. Good luck.

When I lived up north, we used to put some graphite in the door locks so they would turn in below freezing weather. Perhaps something like that could be used, or another type of modern lubricant.

Yes, when the snow melts, water fills in the fuel door track.
When it freezes, it stops the door from being pushed in, thus it will not release.
When you get it open, clean out the ice.

Maybe the push button portion of the door is inop or possibly frozen; this is definitely a new one (for me anyway).

Thanks to all. Managed to get it open. It does appear to be an ice issue because I parked it in the garage for a while and was able to get it to open this morning. It also appears to be a magnetic latch, so I think worst case in the future I could slide a card inbetween and manage to open it. Time will tell!

So I'm guessing the door pops open, but you can't open the door fully?

Try using that credit card that you keep vowing to stop using. ;)

It's a mix between a bop and a tap. Because you don't want to damage the sensitive red jewel paint by bopping the gas door too hard to knock the ice off it. ;)

If you are over 70, you could just ride around with it open, like you FORGOT[/color] to close it after a fill up....

I don't know why, but I find that so annoying. LOL Makes me want to get out and close it for them.

You could until someone hits it with their car door and then it's gone

I once pulled up next to an Acadia in traffic whose gas tank door was wide open. I pulled intentionally close (in my ol' Blazer), reached out my window and gently closed it. They didn't even see me do it ;D

I guess the question here is how do you forget? Maybe you don't use the left side mirror when you're driving :eek:hno:

I am begining to wonder if anyone uses their mirrors at all.... You know how difficult it is to eat a burger, talk on the cell phone, pick your nose and adjust the radio at the same time? Who has time to look in their mirrors? We have quite a few of these brain dead folks out here!
