Adaptive Cruise disengaged / temp unavailable when brake is depressed.

2017 Acadia Denali.
My issue began around 60+k with occasionally displaying adaptive cruise disengaged, warning chimes then adaptive cruise temporarily unavailable message when the brake pedal is depressed.

It has progressively worsened and is happening much much more frequently.

I just took it to the dealer this week to get fixed (@99,000 miles).

I am NOW being told that the warning chime and error messages are Normal and its working how it is supposed to.

Contacted GMC Advisor and they are completely WORTHLESS. They tell you they will assist but obviously they do NO research on the issues in question and eventually send back a CANNED reply.

It Never displayed the error or chimed for tens of thousands of miles.
I believe the brake pedal switch is causing it, but the dealer service dept won't even consider it. Says its normal for it to display warning and chime.

Extended warranty almost up, I need a Fix before $$$$

I have a 2018 Acadia Denali with 27,000 miles, I bought it new. After 3 years and with 17,600 miles, it started doing the same as yours. I never changed my driving habits or driving locations. On 8-5-2021 the dealer changed the camera and brake switch, which did not correct the problem, I'm now thinking of getting the ACC controls on the steering wheel replaced to see if that will correct the problem. The dealer ended up telling me their standard answer of, "they all do that." Every new model year, I contact the dealer and get the answer of, still nothing we can do, which is BS. Independent repair shops tell me only the dealers have the means/equipment to work on this problem. There is a TSB on this problem, #PIC6123F. Good luck on getting it fixed.
ACC is ran by the active safety control system. It uses data from the long and short range radar modules and the windshield mounted camera. If the data doesn't compute you get the ACC unavailable message.

Any number of things can cause the system to believe it is not safe to use ACC. Failing parts, dirty parts, environmental issues, misaligned parts, etc. can trigger this error.

This is a common complaint across pretty much all GM vehicles.

Dealers have the tools to test the system and it's components. If all the components are up to spec they are going to tell you they cannot find a problem.

You could certainly replace all the components but that would be an expensive undertaking. Owners don't want to pay for that and warranties don't cover replacing good parts.

Over the last decade I've had 4 GM vehicles with the feature and have not experienced this message but I also never use cruise control.

The steering wheel control is $100.00, unknown what the labor is. Correct on the warranty not covering it.
Well that's some good tech info to hear. At least it will be a little less frustrating now knowing they really don't have a clue. One would think that GM would have a handle on the issues by now, but they seem to care less and just move on.

My Acadia has a laundry list of tech gremlins that occasionally/randomly/weekly torment me like the mirror memory return point upon startup and infotainment freeze ups and grey icons.

Thx for the info 👍

I believe I would skip replacing the acc steering wheel control, it doesn't sound as it would be suspect. This behaves as if the outputs from the brake switch aren't always "in sync" when the brake pedal is pressed (output for acc and output for brake lights)

This is what I do when I activate the ACC. I activate the regular CC, one light touch on button, and it comes on, then activate the ACC by holding the button down much longer, this is the only way it shows the white car. 50% of the time when it should activate I get a message on dash stating the ACC is deactivated, the ACC will not engage. The other 50% it will engage and work for a while until it shuts off. My question is, is it normal that I have to hold the ACC button down much longer, while waiting for it to engage I have to take my eyes off the road. Of course, I've tried different periods of time while holding the ACC button down.
If there is a TSB describing symptoms you are experiencing. Print the bulletin and take it to the Dealership and notify GM. They will contact the dealership on your behalf.... not that they will instruct the dealership to perform any repairs, they will assist you in getting the needed repairs. GM will ask you for feedback on how your repairs are progressing. TSB bulletins can be found on the GM website where recalls are also listed.

Yes, there is a TSB, # PIC6123F. The dealer showed it to me and said, "They all do that."

This is not temperature related. Only happens when the brake is pressed, day, night, hot, warm or cold. It doesn't seem to matter. Adaptive cruise disengaged with Chime then Adaptive cruise temporarily unavailable.

I've never had a vehicle with the gremlins yours seems to have, but if I did, it would have been gone a long time ago.

Life is too short to be frustrated by a misbehaving vehicle.
