On Saturday I'm tooling down a 2-lane road in rural Wyoming when I pass a trooper going the other way. I look at my speedometer and I'm doing 80+. (The speed limit was 65.) There is NO ONE else on the road. He immediately turns around and comes up behind me. Hmmmmmmmm......I wonder if I'm going to get pulled over.

While I'm digging out license, etc. he says "How do you like this car?" I told him I like it a lot. He proceeds to tell me his wife has been bugging him to get an Acadia. He starts asking about gas mileage, etc. He also asks how it drives and I said "Great. In fact, I know what happened: It's so smooth it's really easy to go fast. I really didn't realize I was going that fast."

"Well, sir, we'll let you off with a warning this time." :)

The darn car seemed to GET me in trouble then GOT ME OUT OF IT!

Well the trooper that pulled my wife over for doing 81 mph in a 55 mph zone must not have wanted an Acadia. All he said was here is your ticket and slow down. ;D

I would have to agree that it's real easy to speed in the Acadia. Almost too easy. ;D

****. You got lucky! I got pulled over about 2 weeks ago in Wisconsin on my way to the Mall of America. It was a speed trap (four cop cars) and I was doing 86 in a 65. The fine on that was a ridiculous $261.60 which I had to pay right then and there with a credit card.

Guess he wasn't enamored with my Acadia. :-\

When you get caught up in one of these multi cop car speed traps there is really no way you are going to get out of it. Maybe unless you can prove you are on the way to a hospital about to deliver a baby ;D Then you might get an escort - but not if you run into this Wisconsin cop >:D http://www.wisn.com/news/1133558/detail.html

Pay right there? What happens if you want to appear before a judge and contest the ticket? Something doesn't smell right about that.

Something about because I didn't live there, work there or have any friends or family there (no ties to the state of WI). And I was hardly going to drive 5 hours north to contest a speeding ticket where I was clearly speeding. LOL But I do see your point. I actually wondered what would have happened if I didn't have a credit card to my name or the cash to pay the ticket. Then what... hauled off to the clink? And the three teenagers in my car... where do they get to go at midnight in the middle of friggin' nowhere Wisconsin?

Anywho, lesson learned, DO NOT speed in Wisconsin. They suck. ::) I wasn't driving like a mad-woman. Just cruisin' along, listening to music, hoping to reach our destination by 1am... we made it by 2am after the ticket.

Yup, our state is noted for setting up speed traps on the interstate. Sometimes 6 troopers ganged up in one spot. They are like a machine. Nice thing about that situation is that their radar is usually constantly ON and my Beltronics Pro RX 65 will pick up their KA or Laser band well in advance. Sorry your Acadia was unable to avoid a ticket in Wisconsin covered with beautiful scenery filled with lakes coupled with wild life.. That is why so many IL., folks vacation here with many of them having second homes! Sorry to hear of mishap taking your usual trip to Minneapolis.

Be very glad you weren't in Arizona -- anything greater than 20mph above the posted speed limit is a Class 3 Misdemeanor, subject to fine of up to $500 and imprisonment up to 30 days.

I am a former "cheese head" now living in Illinois and those cops will definitely look for the Illinois plates coming over the border.

I think IL., drivers, [50 mile radius of Chic] have reputation for being fast and impatient drivers, don't you? :'( Holy, Moly, better be careful in AZ!! Guess you wouldn't want a 500+hp street machine in that state!

Actually I think anything 21+ over the posted speed limit in IL is considered wreckless driving and the fine is immediately higher. But by higher, that means like $150. Not $261!

If you don't go at least 75mph on the tollways in IL, you'll get run down by everyone else.

And you do not even have to have a cop pull you over - just smile for the camera.

Arizona Gives Final Approval to Freeway Photo Radar
Scottsdale, Arizona begins installation of its lucrative new freeway speed camera system

Arizona Department of Transportation officials yesterday gave final approval to Scottsdale's plan to install automated speeding ticket cameras on the Loop 101 freeway. The city will start installing the devices overnight today with cameras being ready to issue the first tickets by February 9. Early estimates suggested the city could issue between 1500 and 2500 tickets every day, generating $235,000 in daily revenue.

The program will first target individuals doing 11 MPH over the 65 MPH speed limit, collecting around $157 for each photo taken along the 7.8 mile stretch of highway. Australian camera vendor Redflex collects a $42.48 bounty for every citation it is able to generate.

In 2004, Scottsdale issued $9.3 million in photo tickets causing a near doubling in the city's fatality rate. The city is hoping the new system will add tens of millions of dollars to its budget.
