Our 2017 has 31k miles and already needed the rear brake rotors turned. The OEM pad on the right side had something hard in the pad and left a nice gouge out of the rotor. I no longer trust the dealership to service our vehicle as they should have alerted us to this. Our mechanic is a family friend who has her own shop and did the work for us and charged us less than half of what the dealership would have charged us.

What was the last mileage that you had the vehicle in for service/inspection? It's possible to pick up something from the road that gets in there and quickly wipes out the rotor.

I would think Jeff had it right; likely somehow picked up something on the road. No different than getting a flat tire, just a fluke...
