Re: 17" rims (for winter)
Yes- all Lambda models use the same bolt pattern, so the wheels from one will fit the other. The trick is to find the proper diameter of 17" tire. We discussed replacement tires for the OEM 18" ones here, and the selection is incredibly limited for some reason.
I visited the Tire Rack (TR) website and looked up a 2009 FWD Traverse LS. The size shown is 245/70-17. TR has 4 pages of tires in this size! Prices range from $105 for Kumho Road Venture APT KL51 to $165 for Goodyear Wrangler SilentArmor. They also have some aggressive tread off road type tires if you search by size w/o putting in a vehicle.
When I entered a 2009 Traverse LT, I got 255/65-18 as the OEM size (same as Acadia). TR lists ONE tire (the OEM Goodyear) in this size for $158. :angryfire:
I then went to the
1010 Tires size comparison page, and compared the two sizes:
18" Section Width: 10.03 in 255 mm
17" Section Width: 9.64 in 245 mm
18" Rim Diameter: 18 in 457.2 mm
17" Rim Diameter: 17 in 431.8 mm
18" Rim Width Range: Unrecognized tire size.

18" Radius: 15.52 in 394.20 mm
17" Radius: 15.25 in 387.35 mm
18" Circumference: 97.54 in 2477.5 mm
17" Circumference: 95.81 in 2433.5 mm
18" Revs per Mile: 669.8
17" Revs per Mile: 681.9
18" Actual Speed: 60 mph 100 km/h
17" Speedometer reads: 61.0 mph 101. km/h

Pretty close, so I played with the width and aspect ratio.
255/70-17 is a perfect fit on paper:

TR has two pages of tires in this size. They range from $112 for General Ameritracs to $174 for Michelin LTX M/S.
EDIT
The 17" option would require buying new wheels and reusing your pressure sensor monitors (TPMS) or buying new ones. I priced a set of the 17" aftermarket wheels at Tire Rack along with the least expensive General 255/70-17 tires and new TPMS sensors. Total was around $1285 shipped to FL. This is about twice the cost of replacing the stock 18" tires with either non-Goodyear brands (Hankook) in the stock size or using the 275/60-18 size as noted in the 18" tire thread.
