I am considering purchasing a 2008 Acadia with 250000 on it. The current owner says the miles are mainly highway miles, he replaced the engine and transmission a couple of years ago, and cosmetically it is in great shape. I am a single mom, so I want to make sure I am not getting a problem. Does the fact that it has a new engine and transmission basically make the high millage not a problem? Would you purchase it?

Wouldn't consider a purchase like that without a full inspection of the vehicle - brakes, suspension, tires, etc. Do you know for sure how many miles are on the new engine and transmission? If the previous owner took care of the car and replaced all the wear components, it could be a good purchase for you.

Unless it comes with a stack of service records a mile high you can probably expect issues out of an almost 10 year old vehicle with 250k miles.

Agree with Speleos, needs a thorough pre-sale inspection.

You say you are a single mom............

does this single mom have tools to take care of some repairs.

the following items are easy to do--- but shops/dealers will charge a pretty penny to do.

Struts, shocks, brake pads, endlinks, coolant hoses, thermostat.....

thore are things that come to mind on a high mileage vehicle.

2010 FWD LT1-Gold Mist Metallic- seats 8.
Build Date- July 31, 2009-2nd day of Spring Hill 2010 production.
2013 Equinox 3.6L -    55,000
2010 Traverse 3.6L-  123,000
2003 Trailblazer 4.2L-180,000
