Hello - has there been a consensus as to whether using an LED creates an improvement to the degredation of the housing?  I've read many threads on this topic, and I'm willing to spend the money to buy LED's and have them installed.  I've already had one wire harness and "bulb gasket" replaced due to deformation - using a standard 3157 bub again.  I've had the fix to install the backing plate - but since one of my bulbs has been out for a year - I was thinking to replace both w/ LEDs.

However, from all the reading I've done to date, there does not seem to be any agreement that the LED is the way to go.  One person wrote that the LEDs were okay at night, but weren't all that bright during the day (the time they're intended to be used).  Another person wrote that the high-output LED he used still got too hot!  My other option is to continue to use a standard bulb and just pay to have them replaced (which I hate to do).  The access to the bulb isn't easy at all - IMO.

Thx for your input.

LEDs are fine as DRL's in the HID equipped 2007-2012 Acadias.  They only get used during the daytime and automatically go off when it's dark enough for the regular headlamps to come on.

Thanks Geo - I realize they're not illuminated after our headlights are on - but was looking for feedback on whether either their brightness or reliability exceeded a standard bulb - which is less costly and more easily available to obtain w/o an online order... etc.

Yeah, brightness is just as good or better than the 3157 incandescent bulbs, depending on what type of LED bulb you get, but you're right, they're more expensive.  I ran the LEDs above until my headlamp assemblies got replaced.  For whatever reason, after the assemblies were replaced the passenger side LED kept blowing out at the base (see my post of Page 4 of this thread).  Something wasn't right, so I put the incandescent bulbs back in, but I never read of anyone else having the problem I did with LEDs.
