This is the reset with the Tire Pressure Monitor system tool.
I changed oil, cleaned the throttle body, and rotated tires.

Ignore the flashing TPMS light on the dash- I got a service Tire Press Mon. System after I kept turning off the ignition several times without comleting the reset----- from me taking multiple 'takes' of the video. The light went away once I completed this video and turned ignition off/on

normally you dont have the flashing light....

Neat - so with that tool you avoid adding or releasing air to each tire during the process?

I've only done the relearn once in four years and probably will never do it again.

I'm much rather deflate a little air and inflate again then spend $77.00 (more likely over $100.00 in Canada) for a tool that will only be used twice a year.

I reset the TPMS on 4 GM's via the  air out/in way.... Im the 'family' mechanic of sorts...

And on our 07 Impala- no matter what-- I could not reset it via the air out method. It would time out. I eventually had to pay the dealer to reset it using their tool.

So for a long time- I did not reset-- but it drove me nuts knowing the TPMS wasnt showing the true position..

So the tool was a bo brainer for me.

The problem is that starting in 2012? or later you CAN'T use the air method.  Bang Head

So you will have to take it to a dealer.  I doubt that it will be free.  Plus I don't want a dealer to tough my vehicle unless absolutely necessary.
I have not had good luck with my dealer.  So I do as much as I can.  That's just me.  Some people love their dealer and take it to them for every little thing.

Plus I like to help people when I can, so if someone I know needed a relearn I would be happy to help  thumbs up

I agree with this...
Ive scanned Check Engine lights for a bunch of people.
Ive saved them tons of money by telling them what the code is.

and I occasionally scan our cars for pending codes.

I have a 2012 and the air method still works, however the owners manual no longer has the description printed inside, it states that you must use the relearn tool or your dealer. Let me assure you, the air method DOES work on a 2012.

I wonder if my scan tool can reset a check engine code / light on my 2012 Acadia. It resets the check engine light on my Caravan.

I was thinking of cutting-off the factory thermostat in the cord of my engine block heater, I want to heat the coolent even when the temperature is above -18 Celcius but it will likely trip a check engine code and I want to be able to reset without the dealer.

If it can reset your Caravan I think you should be safe that it will reset CEL's on most vehicles.

One way to find out, right?

I guess I'll have to see if a check engine code comes on sometime. I don't want to cut the heater cord, trip a code, and then find out that I would have to bring it to the dealer to reset  Sad

prob the easiest one- leave your gas cap loose...
it should set off the CEL.

If you cant reset it- tightening  it- will clear the light- once it runs the check again (thats my understanding).

Open the drivers door and check when your vehicle was built.  Early 2012 models might still work like yours does.  I don't know when they
started programing them differently.  It's just that I heard that they are going to switch it so you have to use a relearn tool.  More $$ for the dealer ?

I don't think the gas cap trips a CEL in these cars. There's actually a specific message just for that these days.

I don't even need to check, I took delivery back in August 2011 for the 2012 model, it would have been an early build.

So when you get your 2014 Acadia, you will either have to get a tool or go to the dealer.
Of course you could come to my house and I would do it for FREE  Grin Grin Grin
