Here's my first run of Pennzoil Platinum 5W-30 in the SN formulation.  Click the image link to get to the image host site to 'zoom in' to a more readable level.

This is the first UOA where I've been able to get the fuel reading within tolerance.  All UOA samples to date were with OLM at the factory calibration.

So far I've had good results in the summer using Pennzoil Platinum and Castrol Edge.  I'm running Platinum again over the winter and will see how that turns out.

Your TBN looks great for +/- 10,000 miles. I have used the PP too but @ 6,000 miles the oil was just about worn out. Did you have to add oil during the OCI? Any oil consumption or oil in the intake pipe?

It's kilometers, not miles.  Yes, the oil isn't worn out, but this was favourable summertime weather and some lengthy highway trips.  No top-off at all, though the oil level was certainly low.  Topping off would have affected the UOA results.

Have you had an analysis done yet for winter driving on PP? I'm thinking of going with PP on my next change within a month, was using Valvoline Synpower prior (although didn't do a UOA yet since it was my first oil change for the 2011).

I think other have done UOA on the PP-
and all showed a very nice improvement over what they were using.
Quite a few on here- have stopped using Mobil 1- and gone to PP.

The latest API service standard designation is SN for gasoline automobile and light-truck engines. The SN standard refers to a group of laboratory and engine tests, including the latest series for control of high-temperature deposits. Current API service categories include SN, SM, SL and SJ for gasoline engines. All previous service designations are obsolete,

Thanks, I actually have found alot of those threads and is the reason I'm looking at going with PP.

What about Penzoil Ultra, I don't think I've seen much chatter or UOAs for it? Although it's more expensive than PP so not sure if I'd go with it.

I think they were pretty similar....
though I think one of them is listed as DEXOS approved- while the other is not..
and for warranty sake- the Dexos one if the way to go- and I think its PP.

Yes, Platinum is dexos and Ultra is not.  My Wal Mart was out of Platinum last weekend so I bought Ultra instead.  I don't expect to be blown any crap from GM if there ever were an issue.  I will try to go back to Platinum next time.
