I have noticed that the reception is poor in my acadia. Stations that had a little bit of poor reception in my silverado are almost hard to listen to in the acadia. I read up on this and seems like I'm not the only one.

Doesn't seem like an Acadia problem so much as a poor reception problem where you live. How does XM sound (if you have it)?

I don't subscribe to xm, but how can I  blame where I live if my other vehicle has good reception?

I've had 2 Acadias... they both SUCKED at FM Radio reception. Worst vehicle ever owned for reception. I have trouble getting stations from an hour away, but my Caravan (completely sucks at everything else) gets crystal clear reception from stations over 2 hours away. Even the radio inside my house picks-up the stations that the caravan can. The Acadia has the WORST reception of any vehicle I've ever had... including a Honda Accord with a broken-off antenna.

Don't know about XM, refuse to pay for radio (or television)

This string has to make me laugh - we will now trash the Acadia bacuse the "radio sucks"  Cmon. Bang Head  Has anyone noticed that when driving west in the late afternoon, the Acadia gets lots of sun glare?

My fm reception is bad as well (NAV radio).  But I find that it is not consistant also.  For weeks at a time it will be just fine.  Then, over the same stretch of road, at the same time of day, all of the local stations break up and have terrible crosstalk.  Next day may be fine again, or still messed up.

I don't think it is bashing to expect something as simple as an FM radio to work.

Solar flares might be causing this issue

I'm not trashing my Acadia, but the FM reception does suck. I love the Acadia, so I just work around it. Like I said in my post... my Caravan gets great reception (but sucks at everything else)

So... would I rather have a great vehicle with poor reception or a crappy vehicle with great reception? I can live without good sound LOL. The Acadia plays MP3 discs, so the FM reception isn't a big concern anyway.

I'm just saying I think it's likely a combination of the area you may be in and maybe some other factors.  I've never noticed any issues with the reception on ours.

My silverado has good reception, I was talking about stations that are not so clear, my acadia can't get those stations. What can cause poor reception? I have an antena thats about 5-6 inches long with a wire twirled around it.

Solar flares; see my previous post

Not just those but weather can be a factor. too.  Buildings, trees, nearby transmitters (ever look at the number of cell towers?) and a host of other factors can combine to give you poor reception.

We have a stretch nearby of secondary road I travel often and radio reception is awful in any car I'm driving.

You guys may joke but I notice this as well. And I can pretty much rule everything like weather and whatnot out because there are times when I drive home, switch to my wifes car and go back out and listen to the same station and it works fine.

I just chalk it up to a weak antenna and it isn't a huge deal to me, but it IS weaker than other cars.

Antenna is definitely a factor - remember when they were putting the antenna inside the windshield - those were awful.

Dear Martin78,

I have read your post along with the entire thread about your experience with your Acadia and the radio reception.  What year is your Acadia?

Have you or anyone else that is experiencing this talked with the dealership about this?  If any of you have, what did the technicians have to say about it?

Sincerely,
Michelle, GMC Customer Service

I talked to the dealer with my 2008 and they said it was normal. Once I got the 2010 and had poor reception in that one also, I realized it is just the way the Acadia is.

Well...I was going to buy an Acadia but now....... shrug

I have a 2009 Tacoma and it also has reception issues.  I bought an aftermarket amplifier and taped into the antenna wire behind the radio.  It helped a bit.

I don't own one yet...is there any way to pop out the radio and get access to the wires?  I imagine it will be much more complicated than my Tacoma!

I really do hate poor radio reception.

The radio controls everything, once you remove it the Acadia just crumbles into pieces and drops to the ground around you... perhaps you shouldn't attempt to remove it Smiley

I've heard some of the timing chain issues were caused by removal of the radio.

Probably, just as important (or more so) is a specification of the radio tuner called FM Sensitivity. This figure tells you how well a receiver can pick up FM radio signals. Smaller values are better - they indicate an ability to pick up weaker stations. Expressed in decibel femtowatts (dBf).
So, the radio that GM chose to put in the car probably has a larger "FM Sensitivity" than cars that get better reception.
I, personally, rarely listen to FM in my Acadia. I hook up my iPod using the USB connection. The sound is excellent...all the time.

In any given week, I drive 4 or more different makes of automobiles and vans.  Some of them have stock radios and some have after-market units.  Each one has radio reception problems somewhere within the FM band.  Can you say urban sprawl, a huge increase in the number of radio stations (with lower transmitter power), and interference thereof might be the problem?  Just something to think about before everyone blames it on the radio itself!

Hoping that's a bit tongue-in-cheek!  What's the matter, you don't like 'cheese-steak' (Philadelphia) radio stations?

Hello, I have a 2009 Chevrolet Traverse.  I have the same poor reception problem.  It is a nav radio.  I have had this issue since I got the used vehicle in March.  Since then, they have replaced the radio twice.  The third radio is on the way.  I tried an aftermarket antenna when the first replacement did not work.

I am at my wits end on this.  I have contacted GM customer service about this.  At first the dealer could not hear the reception (they weren't LISTENING to my complaint).  After this last radio a month ago, the heard the problem.

GM customer service was calling me every few days for an update.  After the dealership verified the poor recption and had to investigate, I get a message from the GM customer service stating

That they are aware of my problem and if there EVER IS a fix for this, they would contact me.  Not what I wanted to hear.

I will let you know on the next radio.  The last two have been refurbed.  maybe this one is new.  I don't think this is going to solve my problem.
The reception on FM is the worst.  Even an 80 wal mart radio I have in my work van picks up like a champ.

I also see that if the car is still, the reception is fine.  When the car moves, it fades in and out.

The first thing I noticed after buying my vehicle (new, 2008) was the poor FM radio reception. Especially my favorite station. The free 6 month XM was awesome, so I forgot about it quickly. After that ended, I remembered! I just started throwing CDs in it----it holds 6. These days, I just plug my phone in and use Pandora.

CDs, Mp3, Pandora, XM, all sound great.

FM reception has, and still does, suck.  Binky Baby

Ok, since I started this thread i did buy and aftermarket antenna, i ca honestly say it didn't fix the problem entirely but did fix it a little. I believe its a design flaw somewhere why reception hurts.
