On my gear shift, I have a button that has a plus and minus sign. I have looked everywhere in the manual and am unable to find any reason for it. Can someone enlighten me?
thanks

If you put the shifter all the way down to Low, the buttons allow you to shift by hand.

If you put the shifter all the way down to Low, the buttons allow you to shift by hand.

You can do this; but it's main function is to limit the highest gear you want your Acadia to shift into.  This is mainly ysed in towing so that your trans doesn't do the 5-6 shift over and over.  Shift to L and hit the + button to 5 and your Acadia will never shift into 6th.

Pg 9-24 of your owner's manual discuses it

In 'L,' you can use the - and  + to downshift and upshift just like you were using the trans as a manual trans, only NO CLUTCH!!

Also--- when going downhill--- and the vehicle senses that youre speeding up AND stepping on the brake (and no gas pedal input)-- it know that youre picking up speed with no gas input (= going downhill)... and hill descent control kicks in... you will feel the engine/trans help slow down the vehicle.... though in some cases--- You dont need the descent control to kick in....
So you can shift to L-- hit the + and select 6....  selecting L- turns off descent control...
so now in L and 6- you can go downhill and pickup speed and not have the engine/tranny interfere.
