My 2007 Acadia is having the power liftgate "opening by itself" problem that I've read all over this forum.  It seems to be the consensus that taking it to the dealer for repair or replacement should take care of the problem.  My question is what kind of cost will I be looking at since mine is recently out of warranty?

Not sure anyone can predict that without knowing what is wrong.  Have them look at it and worse case scenario is you can disable the power feature with the switch on the dash if you're not able to incur the cost right now.

When you get it fixed, let us all know the cost....kind of interested, in that we have the power lift gate on our Enclave, and would like to know what cost is if it fails out of warranty.

I will check my records; I had my liftgate repaired under extended warranty; although not for the same issue.  IIRC; there wasn't any prices listed but i will check

For reference:

My liftgate stopped opening with either the touchpad or switch; they pulled codes and the power liftgate control module dumped.  The dealer replaced module and all is good now

Didn't have the opening-by-it-self problem but was getting a clunk when the door reached the open position.  Service manager said it was normal.  There was a new vehicle in the shop at the time and I asked to hear what that door sounded like when opened.  He opened the door and it was extremely quiet, no noise at all.  Service manager said he would order a new motor and when it was installed, I no longer have any noise when opened.  Luckily I was still under warranty at the time.

Mine works quietly without and irregular sound.  The key fob button works correctly and the console button works well too.  The only problems are that the button on the liftgate suddenly works only sporadically and I may come outside to find the crazy thing open.  It even magically opens even when the liftgate is turned off at the console.  Something definately is wacko here and needs to be addressed I just wonder how much this is going to cost me.

Well, I guess you will need to count on at least $100 in diagnostic cost(1hour at $100/hr labor).   Then, who knows.  All bets are off.  Good luck, hope all goes well and it doesn't cost too much.   Keep us informed when you do get it fixed.

Our 2007 is under an extended warranty - On Aug 6th the dealer repaired our liftgate and these were the charges that were covered:
- Customer says rear lift gate will close half way then pops up by itself
- Found that actuator was binding internally - replaced liftgate actuator, performed re-set procedure

Electrical repairs -
1900 CEXT            $182.40
25924812 Module   $456.14
plus 1.6 hours labor

To bump an old topic, has anyone had to pay for this out of warranty yet? It looks like I'm having a liftgate issues now and it doesn't open/close via the fob or the buttons. It just makes a grinding noise. I'm going to take it in to the dealer when I have the money to get it fixed but I'm curious to know what anyone else has had to pay?

I was quoted $600 at the dealer (it seems everything that breaks costs $600) to replace the motor on the liftgate as they said it is busted.
I dont know if this is the case. Even with the button in the OFF\Manual position, when I try to open it, I hear the motor cycling and I have to wait a second for it to 'unlock' (I guess) before I can manually open it or it catches on something and will only open a quarter inch. It seems more like an issue with the lock than the motor but not sure. When on, and I use the keyfob, button or console switch you can hear the motor cycling over and over but the door never lifts. So now I have broken AC ($600) and broken liftgate ($600). Ugh.

Dear ntpro,

Please, feel free to get a second opinion from another dealership so you can compare the information that you have been provided from the current dealership.

Agreed, but in that time I may have used the liftgate a mere 100 times and always with the buttons, never manually. I cant imagine the motor is rated for only a hundred or so reps. So to summarize: total fail on tramsmission and had to replace entirely, AC out and liftgate. Seems like a lot of major outages.

I agree; unfortunately these things seem to happen. This issues have been reported by other owner's during the life of their vehicle
