Towing a single car on a car hauler (~4600 lbs) with a 2012 Acadia

I was considering purchasing an Acadia, the pricing seems very reasonable for a vehicle of this size and comfort.

I occasionally (3-4 times a year) take my car to the track on an dual axle open car hauler with electric brakes. The hauler weighs about 1900 lbs, the car about 2700 lbs. I don't have that much gear, maybe 100 lbs of stuff and usually go by myself. If I find an Acadia with the towing package they supposedly have a 5200 lb tow rating. Do you think it will a sufficient tow vehicle?

I also am looking at Tahoes but they are much more expensive and use more fuel and I don't tow that often. Most of the time this would be my daily driver.

Opinions or thoughts?

I don't think you'll have a problem with it. Good luck, and :welcome:

Thanks! Would a FWD or AWD vehicle tow better?
Depends a lot on the terrain. You would get by fine with FWD, except on slick ground or starting out on steep hills.

Look for a tahoe with a flex fuel motor. The acadia, especially the first generation, has a terrible transmission track record. I own a suburban and an Acadia. The Acadia has 160k miles and a blown tranny. The suburban has 370k and still runs amazing. The flex fuel motor gives me 28 mpg on the highway, yet I still have the power of a v8 under the hood.

With the trailer brake you wouldn't have any problem. I had a Saturn ion, and can say from that perspective I would recommend AWD for full confidence on hills, gravel, rain on a resurfaced driveway. tongue weight takes away traction, and even with only 100-120LBS of tongue weight took away a lot of traction on my Saturn towing the recommended 1000LBS. any more weight or tongue weight and it was more of a challenge starting on hills than I liked.

I have an acadia and wouldn't trade it for a Tahoe any day. transmissions can go bad on any car, and maybe I'm missing something, but a 2012 acadia should have a pretty reliable transmission. Just get one with the factory tow package so you get the transmission cooler.
