A/C Issue Question

I have read several sites and threads, but none match my issue close enough for me to feel comfortable to diagnose...

I have a 2011 Acadia that we bought used about 11 months ago. Last weekend, driving down the road, there was a noticeable hissing sound from the dash that went on for about a minute or three. Shortly afterwards, the a/c stopped blowing cold or even cool air out of the vents, only warm air (both DR & PS side). It has since blown cold air once or twice, but now it is blowing warm air only. It also occasionally makes the hissing noise. The Compressor is still cycling on and off, but no cool/cold air. I had a friend tell me that it could be the Blend Door actuator, I have read all about the ongoing issues with the Evaporator Core....

Please help if you can, I certainly do appreciate your assistance!!!

It could be something as simple as the A/C system needing service. It should be done periodically, just like the system in your house. Your car is almost 6 years old. Don't you think it's time for some system maintenance? You can manipulate the system and check operation of the actuators. What you describe doesn't sound like an actuator problem, though.

Hi,

I had same problem on my 09 Acadia and on my new one 14. Took to dealer and they found that the Thermal Expansion Valve needed to be replaced and i also had a hose leaking by the compressor.
Not sure if these are the part #'s but here anyways.

# 23362334 Hose 9.226 Y
# 22816159 Valve 9.213 Y

I am having the exact same issue with my 2009 Acadia regarding the hissing and not blowing cold air. In recent rains the defogger wasn't effective either. I this very expensive to fix? This makes me nervous because I'm on a tight, fixed budget and, being female, I don't want anyone taking advantage of my ignorance in these matters. Thank you for any help and/or advice.

It depends on the particular problem with the car. It could cost you a few $100 to nearly $2000. It might be good if you asked them to charge the refrigerant, check the system for leaks, and give you an estimate of what it will take to repair it properly if they find a leak. Then, you can prepare for anything costly and still have a system that will work for a while if the leak isn't too bad.
