P2097 check engine light on GMC Acadia

I purchased a 2010 GMC Acadia in 2013. I have had the check engine light on for a while now even after getting some work done by the GMC dealer.
Here is what has been done to my vehicle in the past 6 months or so.
Gumout fuel inj. service/clean, replaced both O2 sensors, replaced the gas cap, used a very high quality fuel injector in the gas, fuel injector flush, replaced all 6 fuel injectors, R&R intake and decarbonize engine, STILL ON with the same code P2097 post catalyst fuel trim system high limit.
Can someone please give me an idea of what else it could be that has not been done yet?
I am at a loss and have spent almost 2K on everything listed above. Short of trading in my Acadia which I still owe 15K on.
HELP.. PLEASE?

It's confusing to figure out who has done all the work described in first post. The code suggests trouble occurs on one side of the engine, not both ... "P2097 Post Catalyst Fuel Trim System Too Rich Bank 1." I suggest you search the 'net for "P2097" and read about everything you're up against to get this problem solved. It seems someone has been floundering to get the car fixed.

Depends which 2 were replaced. P2097 points to the bank 1 downstream sensor. I'm guessing either both downstream sensors were replaced or both the upstream and downstream on bank 1......or both upstream sensors were replaced in which case nothing has been done to resolve the issue.

The most common causes for a P2097 are a failed downstream O2 sensor, a failed catalytic converter or an exhaust leak somewhere around the downstream O2 sensor.

to me that sounds like the replaced the upstream Oxygen sensors.... the ones right at the manifolds.

the one between the engine and radiator.



and the one between the engine and firewall

I'm seeing reports of people changing the downstream sensor for bank 1 and some exhaust leak repairs. A small hole near(within a foot usually) will cause a sensor to read wrong because it pulls outside air in between exhaust pulses. I also found a bulletin for this code that states the same. #

An exhaust system can be smoke tested or pressurized with a few psi and checked with soapy water. Maybe you can have the exhaust checked and then put a sensor in it then see what happens.

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the veh
icle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this
PI.
Condition/Concern
Some customers may complain of an SES light with no
drivability concerns. The technician
will find a DTC P2097 or P2099 set.
Recommendation/Instructions
The most common concerns we have seen have been rela
ted to fuel injectors.
This should be caught on initial diagnosis for these
codes.
Perform injector balance or AFIT test prior to going
further.
Note:
Fuel injector balance test not available on 2009 Ac
adia, Outlook, Enclave and
Traverse.
If normal SI diagnostics does not lead to a resoluti
on for this code, then look for a small
leak in the exhaust, usually at the outlet to the en
gine converter.
This leak will allow air to be pulled into the exhau
st and cause a false lean concern at the
post O2 sensor.

To diagnose this leak we recommend applying air to
the rear of the
downstream converter
or to the tail pipe on single systems @ 5psi to 8 psi.
Apply a soapy solution to the gasket areas and the
O2 boss.
Leaks in these areas that will cause the code will be larger bubbles.

Unfortunately I believe they are all the same part number. Hopefully you can tell from a visual inspection which are new ones. Replacing the upstream ones was not going to solve your problem.

Are you saying you picked it up from the shop and it still had a check engine light on?

They're not the same. There's a different part number for the upstream and downstream sensors. I believe the upstream sensors are heated and have a different wiring harness attached to them. The sensors might be built such that you can use a heated sensor in place of a non-heated one, but not vice versa.

divotdug no, when I picked it up from the dealership the CEL was off but 3 days later in came back on.
rbarrios I will double check the part numbers and I will call my dealership on Monday make sure they are aware of all things mentioned here and MAYBE if I can get them to replace the other O2 sensors that might fix my problem.

when I was pricing out the sensors.
these are the brands I looked at

there are
AC DELCOS (made by Bosch)
Bosch
Denso
NGK.


dealer would most likely install the ACDELCO branded (made by Bosch)

Have read all the comments about ACAD10's vehicle. Was going to start work on my daughters 2010 GMC Acadia with seems a lot of the same issues. I purchased a set (4) O2 sensors and noticed they all have the same part number. This was giving me concern when I thought the upstream and downstream would be different. Is it possible that a heated O2 sensor for the upstream could be used for the downstream? Could someone give me some insight on this please. Need to know before install or send them back. Also thanks for the possible exhaust leak information!
