Has anyone else had issues with their Blind spot detection system? Every time I start my vehicle I get a warning on my display that says "Service side detection system". The indicators in my mirrors will not come on when a vehicle is on my side or the passenger one will always be on. I've had the vehicle in 4 time and had a module replaced twice. It works for 2 weeks then I get the warning again. A crappy dealership near me does not seem to be able to fix it or care. Starting to think I have a lemon.
Ooops! Confused the two. My fault for not paying attention to what I'm reading Regardless, the Blind Spot detector is not infallible. I still need to look over my left shoulder just to be sure. :banghead:
Anyone fix this issue themselves? My "Service Side Detection System" message has been on for a while. I tried swapping in a new module/sensor with no luck...I'm guessing it needs to be re-programmed with a Tech-2 or something? Any insight?
In case anyone reads this looking for answers, you need an MDI not Tech 2 to program the modules (at least for 2013 and up, not sure about older models).

The Next Generation Multiple Diagnostic Interface – The MDI 2
January 15, 2016
The next generation of the J2534 GM Multiple Diagnostic Interface, or MDI 2 (Fig. 1, right), offers increased processing power and security than the original MDI (Fig. 1, left) for faster programming speeds on current Global A vehicles as well as future Global B vehicles. The compact communication module is required in order to manage the transfer of data between a vehicle’s onboard network and a service technician’s PC.
The EL-52100 MDI 2 is now available for purchase at the Special Service Tools website, gmtoolsandequipment.com, or by calling 1-800-GM-TOOLS.
The MDI 2 supports diagnostic applications — GDS 2, Data Bus Diagnostic Tool, and Tech2Win — as well as Pass-Thru programming applications — TIS2Web–SPS.
Enhancements to the tool were based on technicians’ feedback on how they use the MDI and how to improve it. It replaces the first generation MDI, introduced in 2007, for Pass-Thru programming on current GM models. The MDI 2 is backward compatible, so it can be used to perform Pass-Thru programming on all vehicles built since 1996.
The MDI 2 connects to the vehicle via the J1962 connector using a new DLC cable. Connection between the MDI 2 and the PC running the Global Diagnostic System 2 (GDS 2) software can be accomplished via standalone (USB), through a new Point-to-Point wireless Wi-Fi interface feature (a simple plug & play), or through the dealership network (Ethernet or wireless).
Is there anyway to shut the side detection system off? Fuse, wire, etc.? I had the right side go out last year,2 months to get it, now the left side has gone bad. They want $600 to fix, I have only 6 months on the lease left. I said forget it. Still got charged for $95 when I already knew the problem. Thanks GMC. They knew they had a problem with these sensors. Look at all the complaints on this forum. It should of been a recall not nickin people for 600. This may change my mind in 6 months when it becomes time to purchase something besides GMC. This is my 4 GMC product in the last 12 years.
Then they change the Acadia 17, just don't know what they are thinking.
If there was, it would be an option in the DIC menu much like park assist.
(Hey, the service folks don't work for free. Slavery ended with passage of the 13th Amendment. If you knew what the problem was before you took it in, why didn't you just fix it yourself? :angryfire: :angryfire: )
Has any progress been made on the "service side detection system" issue? My 2014 Acadia Denalli with 58k miles just joined the club. I'm a newbie to this forum and don't like dropping large amounts of money at the dealer for faulty designs. Are there other components to this system than the 2 sensors on the rear bumper and the harness between them?

Don't know where you get this "faulty design" thinking - other cars use the same system. There simply haven't been many failures reported. Sorry yours is broken. :sosad:
If you can read schematics, find one for this system and trace how the signal is routed through the car. It surely involves other components. You'll have to pay someone to find out what's wrong. That is unless you have an extended warranty covering this part of the electronics or can diagnose and repair it yourself.
Where can I find a 2014 side detection system schematic? I see links to 2009 and down schematics. Windshield wipers only worked at high speed this morning. Didn't have a chance to check fuses before wife took the Acadia to work.
You'll have to find that info on your own. Search for the factory service manual covering the year/model of your car. No one has posted anything for the newer model years here.
Appears that "service side detection system" is the tip of the iceberg. I focused on getting the tires replaced, rather than making an appointment for the error message and wipers that only work on full speed. During the tire journey, a host of new maladies presented themselves. The DIC now scrolls "SERVICE SIDE DETECTION SYSTEM" , "PARK ASSIST OFF", and "SERVICE FRONT CAMERA". i didn't know we had a front camera... The vehicle is clean and the message hasn't gone away. In reverse I get an exclamation marked yellow triangle and "Rear Parking Assist Symbols Unavailable" message on the screen I didn't run a check on anything beyond what I needed the Acadia to do, but the tailgate just clunks and won't open by hand; it works fine from the key fob.
it didn't take too long until the key fob wouldn't function after my wife got back in town and started driving it again. I made an appointment at the GMC dealer to get professional grade service. The service writer said "sounds like a body control module, but I'm not not an expert". Towards the end of day 1 in the shop, I got call and he said the under hood fuse & relay block is the problem. I OK'ed the $700+ repair with the assurance that the fix will work and I'm not going to get hit with anything else, like a BCM. Apparently they didn't get the part or it didn't fix the situation on day 2, because I didn't here anything. Day 3 will be Friday and I don't want to be down a vehicle for the weekend.
