Acadia mpg how to improve

I recently purchaised a 2011 for the wife and as you all know it's a pig on gas, so what to do to improve it just installed an intake kit it through a code first then remapped itself now it's gone, was talking to my tuner and he said all he thinks all he can do now is the tranny which would help to tighten up the converter a bit. My issues with this vehicle first is WTF put a 7000rpm car engine in a heavy SUV should be a 5000rpm torque monster, another is the stall can't touch the gas without it hitting 3000, so what to do, my CCSB Sierra with a lot of mods gets better mpg.

Re: Acadia mpg how to improve

I have excellent results by slowing down.
From what Ive learned- other parts of the country- you cant do 55-60 without being driven off the road.
But here in SoCal- I easily can do 55-60. I just did a 500 mile trip with 6 on board- 26-28 MPG.

But being careful how you drive in city.
I can say that when the missus drives in city- the MPG drops to 12-15.
When I drive- it goes up to 16-18 (city).
If I drive combined- 19-22.

Ive seen it all in my Traverse. From 31.3 MPG all highway trip- to 12 MPG in city.

2010 Traverse 3.6L- 127,000

The "fly by wire" throttle system is extremely unforgiving. The less throttle increase or decrease; the better your MPG should be. Also; new engines seem to need miles before any kind of real results can be expected. This is an entire new platform vehicle; so comparing this vehicle to any other GM vehicle is moot.

Re: Acadia mpg how to improve

I've noticed horrible gas milage since it became cold here in toronto. I'm probably getting 12-14 city.

Why does anyone think this vehicle will do well with city mpg

Re: Acadia mpg how to improve

Its not that, seems like a huge jump from the estimated highway mpg to city, its like double.

I guess it's all about the type of "city" driving you are doing. If it's literally stop and go on the streets of Manhattan, 5,000 lb vehicle will be horrible and nowhere near what the sticker says. We get 17ish when not cruising on the highway but that's certainly not in city street type stop and go.

Two issues I have found...

1) Using the remote start every morning and afternoon due to cold weather, that uses a lot of fuel

2) Filling-up at Petro Canada, they use additives in the fuel formulated for winter, the consumption goes very high in the winter, but the engine always starts easy and smooth.

Re: Acadia mpg how to improve

Now that I've got 11,000 km on the new Acadia, the mileage is getting better. It has been horrible for the first few thousand km's on all three of my Acadias.

I've also noticed that setting the cruise control to 105 instead of 120 on the highway saves a lot of fuel.

Your doing better than me. My wife's 2010 is averaging about 10.5 mpg in the city year round. If it would at least get the 14 mpg in the city as advertised I'd be happy. It's pretty bad that my full size Dodge Ram Crew Cab with a Hemi gets a little better mileage in the city than the Acadia (though it's nothing to write home about). Just a heavy SUV with an under powered V-6 causing it to really burn up the gas to move it around in stop and go traffic.
