Replacement battery

Came back from a weeks vacation and the garaged 2008 Acadia SLT's battery was dead. Reading threads on this forum on how hard it was to find a battery; I thought I would share my thoughts. First off, Wal-Mart does carry a battery that will fit and so does O'Reilly and Autozone. I went with Autozone's Duralast Gold. This battery carries a 3yr replacement warranty and an 8yr prorated warranty. I've had great experiences with this battery in the past; so I was very pleased that this battery was available for the Acadia.

Dead as in it wouldn't take a charge? Seems like an early death.

Yep. Had the thing tested...I thought it was a little early too.
One other thing...my wife couldn't get the key out of the ignition upon realizing that the battery was dead. What's the deal with that?

Re: Replacement battery

The ignition is electronic and it locks the key in place when it senses low power. I have mentioned in the past that Walmart now carried a suitable replacement battery for the Acadia

Re: Replacement battery

I have read that the Autozone Duralast Gold and Walmart Everstart (or Neverstart) are both made by Johnson Controls (people who make Interstate). I have sent them a few emails and never got a response about the "guts" and if there are any differences.

From what I have read, the only difference would be the warranty so pick what warranty ranks best for the price you want to pay. Walmart has changed the Everstart warranty within the past year....it used to be that the prorating period restarted if you got a replacement battery, but it now remains from the initial date of purchase.

I also tend to try to replace my factory batteries at about the 4 yr mark.

I've been doing it at five years and haven't had one go dead in many many years.
