2017 Acadia - Need your expertise - General Info

Need your help again please.

1. Oil Life - I've been using my car now for almost 3 months now. My current mileage is now 5K km. My first service schedule is 6 months or 10K km (whichever comes first). But I noticed that my current remaining oil life is now only 45%. Is this normal? If I wait for 10K, my estimate is that my remaining oil life is 0 to 5% and I'm not sure if that's still okay.

2. Electronic parking brake (EPB)- I normally used this as I am using manual hand brake in other cars e.g. traffic, stop light and Parking (before turning off the engine). But after I saw in the manual that this will consume the battery a lot (please correct me if I'm wrong) I now sometimes hesitate to use the EPB specially when I'm in stop light or in Parking thinking that it will drain my battery faster.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Regards,

The OLM calculates oil life based on your driving habits among other things. Follow what the manual tells you, or set your own oil change interval.

There's no issue with draining the battery as long as the engine is running. Cycling the EPB without the engine running will cause a drain on the battery. From the manual:
...To prevent
draining the battery, avoid repeated
cycles of the EPB when the engine
is not running.

Things like this are spelled out in the owner's manual. Would be good to spend some time with it to learn how your car operates and how to take care of it.

My OLM is far worse than yours. It is showing 50% at 1500 miles. It was 99% when I drove it home from the dealer, so nothing happened prior to my ownership. I have no compunction saying there is something wrong with the OLM, or the algorithm. My '14 Denali would easily get to 7500 miles before hitting 0% (I changed it at 10-15%), and my driving habits haven't changed one iota. Even the manual shows a 7500 mile oil change interval in the recommended service section. I can understand some variance in that number based on driving habits, but certainly not what I am seeing. Something is clearly wrong with its computational skills. It is one of the things on my list for the dealer when I go back for my first visit.

Would you happen to know what are the factors to consider in driving to have a better Oil life?
These are my habits in using my car.
-I make sure that my AC is off including the fan before I start or turn off the engine. Regardless of how hot it is inside the car.
-After I start the engine, I wait for the RPM to be less than 1 before I start the AC
-I waited for at least 5 minutes before I drive. And make sure RPM does not go over 2.
-I don't step hard on the acceleration too much not unless I needed to accelerate in some cases.
-I turn off the AC 2 to 3 mins before I turn off the fan. Then wait for at least 10 to 20 sec before I turn off the engine.

Thanks for this info. I already read the manual but might overlook/misunderstood this one.

City/highway driving ratio probably has the greatest influence on oil life. Stop-n-go traffic is tougher on oil than cruising down the highway. Those other things you discussed probably have little, if any, effect on the overall OLM calculation. Looks like they have more to do with an attempt to save fuel.

Now that you mention it, I noticed that for 2 weeks that I drive in city with full of stop lights and humps my OIL life goes really low in proportion to my mileage.
Super thanks bro.

Why would you use the parking brake at any time other than parking?

For instance I am in red traffic sign, so while waiting my car is in Neutral but the road is not even so to prevent it from rolling I will turn ON the parking brake instead of pressing footbrake. Am I doing it wrong?
