2012 Acadia big repairs..what to do?

We just paid off our 2012 Acadia..trying to figure out if we get rid of it or stick $3,000+ in repairs.
1st problem is the A/C went out last summer..started to loose cold air..now the amber light flashes 3 times given is totally out now
2nd problem is the dealer ship noticed a oil leak from our oil change..turns out the front timing cover is leaking oil (estimated around $1750-2100)
The AC problem is more than likely behind the dash or elsewhere. Estimated repair $1200

Very frustrated as we have 72,000 miles and already had two major repairs with steering gear redos at $1,500 & 1,100

Front timing covers have been leaking on Chevy engines since like forever. Unless the seal has totally failed there is no big rush to have it replaced.

Fixing the AC is up to you. Many have survived their entire lives without AC.

A $1200 estimate actually seems low since it usually entails removing the dash to get to the most likely culprit.

You could invest in a recharge kit and temporarily fix it yourself if it's just low on refrigerant. Any leak might not be that severe if the problem is just now occurring.

How severe is the timing cover leak?

if its not that bad, leave it.

Or is it leaving big stains on your driveway?

If it was 98* out and the dealer told me it's hot outside I'd still get a second opinion...sorry but dealer is in business to make money first, maybe find a good Indy for a 2nd opinion...JMO! And as others have asked, how bad is the leak? That bad you can see it yourself, a little seep or stain could go on for a long time before it gets really bad! Good Luck!

Just a thought..............

You might look into buying used car/high mileage vehicle warranties.
Such warranties cover different lines of costs and repairs, just like warranties for new vehicles.

Re: 2012 Acadia big repairs..what to do?

As for the A/C not working... I have a 2010 that has an A/C problem. When turned on, my A/C button blinks 3 times, also, which means the car won't let the compressor turn on because it senses a problem. The first thing I tried was recharging the system to see if it was low on "Freon". After adding a can, the A/C worked and I had cool air coming out of the vents. This confirmed that the compressor worked. I had A/C for the rest of the day, but the next day... nothing. I now assume I have a leak in one of the hoses. I suspect it is the low pressure hose because I think I may have seen what looked like some vapor briefly coming from the area of the radiator, where the low pressure hose goes next to, while I was charging the system.
I agree with the others who say to get a 2nd opinion. Dealer service departments are out to do as much work as they can on their customers cars. They often want to replace entire systems instead of just fixing the part or issue that needs fixing.
