DIY Acadia Headlight Bulb Removal - With Video!!!

Hello,

I would like to thank all of the great people on this forum for sharing their DIY methods and opinions for removing the headlight bulb. To give back to the community, I took a video of this procedure.

Please heed caution before deciding to dedicate 30mins of your life that you will never get back when watching my videos below. I was using my Iphone 4, and I am a complete amature. I also recorded using portrait mode like a tard, so you will need to tilt your monitor or laptop 90 degrees, or just watch this video laying down on your side. : )

Wow. he went ahead and did some 'extra' steps.
This is essentially the same thing in the Traverse.
1st time I did mine- took me a while as I had to figure out how to do it.
But the 2nd time I replaced my low beams- it took me 10 min per side. 20 min total- start to finish.

I simply left my wheels on- turned them inward
removed the screws and only the lower pins- this left enough room for me to see up there- stick hand up and make mental notes of the position of the caps. remove the connector and then remove the bulb.
Replace bulb and attach the connector.
It will be easier to remove the connector with the bulb still in place.
1 thing to remember--- is to MAKE SURE the cap has the O-RING in place.. and make sure you put it back on.

Make note of where the indentation on the cap is--- so that you know where to place it and screw it back on....
so like I said-- once Id done it once- the next time was easy.
It may be that im a skinny guy....and can move around with the wheel turned....
same thing with oil changes... I can slide in under the car to change oil without lifting.

I guess the bulbs just twist in and out ? By Cap..you mean on the back side? Is the O-ring for water protection?

yes, the bulbs- you turn it about 90 degrees- and it comes loose.
These being halogen bulbs- do not touch the glass... as your figerprint oils will shorten the bulb life.
on the cap thats turned the O-ring is most certainly to keep out moisture and dust.

Well, even with my female sized asian wrists i had a problem getting my arm in there withiut severely bending the **** out of the wheel well liner. So if you want to add the complexity of not removing your tire, then that is all up to you. The other thing I noticed that there are some sharp parts in there, so adding the risk of getting cut might sway you to remove the tire and wheel well when performing this procedure.

Anone else have some funny stories or want to share?

Thanks for the video...My passenger headlight went out and I went to the Valvoline Instant Oil Change that my husband manages and had them replace the bulb. I gave them the link for the video and it only took them 10 minutes to change the bulb. Thanks again.

Re: DIY Acadia Headlight Bulb Removal - With Video!!!

I just replaced low beams on both sides on our 2009. I was able to get in by turning the wheels so the front of the tire was inward, then removing just the screws along the front side of the wheel well and underneath the front. I removed the bulb while the wiring was still attached, then I was able to get two hands in there to undo the connector.

I know this is an old thread but, wanted to say thanks. I would have struggled to have figured it out without reading here first. Pain in the butt to do but, once I was into it. It was fairly straight forward.
Thanks for the information.

Engineers should be fired for designing this mess. Why wouldn't they provide an access panel with quick snaps? Guess that's why there is a recall where GM will replace the bulbs and wiring for the bulbs.
