DIC upgrade for an Acadia SLE.

The SLE does not come with a full DIC, only with odometer and trip distance. I was wondering if I could easily upgrade to the full DIC. Initial research indicated that I would have to flash the instrument cluster... basically not worth the hassle.

I however found this interesting thread (http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/inde...&mode=threaded) that implies that 2007 Sierra SLEs come with the DIC fully enabled, wire harness and all, but without the actual DIC buttons, which can be ordered aftermarket (see http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...07&catalogid=1 for the Outlook).

Has anyone looked under an SLE dash and noticed whether there was a DIC harness? Thoughts? Comments?

I installed my DIC buttons over the weekend on my 2008 SLE with tri-zone climate control and Bose 6-disc changer.

As others have mentioned here, getting the silver bezel off was no problem at all. I put a bit of tape on a knife blade so I wouldn't scratch anything and used that for leverage to get it started at the top. Once I got it up a little bit, some nice even pulling had it coming right off.

However, as others have mentioned, I had a heck of a time getting the blank out. They surely designed it to go in, but not come out. I mangled the heck out of it trying to get it out. Undecided But in the end it eventually gave way. Smiley

Putting the DIC buttons in was as simple as clicking it in and then hooking up the only cable that wasn't already being used.

As others have mentioned, once I got it all back together, they light up all nice and red like all the other buttons and only the button on the far right currently does anything. It basically behaves like the trip odometer stem in the dash gauges. Since my vehicle is an 08 that was built after the latest tranny flashes were released, I suspect I'll be waiting for a future computer update to come out before they really become functional. Although I'll check it out after any future trips to the service department.

I took a bunch of pics while I had things opened up. I've posted them here if you are interested: Picasa pictures of DIC install

I ordered the buttons from gmpartsdirect.com. Here are the details:

Okay i wanna start by thanking all of the first people to play with this and save me time finding the part number and the way to remove the bezel. thumbs up Now its my time to contribute , I got my DIC buttons to work in one minute after the installation was done and I still have the original Tranny program in the Acadia . What I did was to pull out the IPC fuse which is what GM calls it ,but on the fuse panel in the passenger side under the instrument panel it as called the "DISPLAY" fuse let it remain out for a minute replace the fuse and start Acadia and done all is working.

I have not read the entire thread, but from what I've seen, the upgrades have been done with the tri-zone climate control equipped units only. There is information that a wiring harness would need to be spliced into a unit with manual AC, but no one has done this to our knowledge.[/color]

Re: DIC upgrade for an Acadia SLE.

Check out this thread - similar topic discussed - the dealers should be able to re-program the SLE's DIC but it might only be for the one feature they discuss on this thread.

Re: DIC upgrade for an Acadia SLE.

If it is as simple as ordering the buttons and installing as per the Sierra SLE thread, then I am all over this one.

Might order the part to try it myself... when my Acadia gets here of course.

Re: DIC upgrade for an Acadia SLE.

That would be awesome. I want my MPG info. I really regret not getting model with full DIC. I don't see why it can be added to the "Base DIC" that comes with the SLE.

Re: DIC upgrade for an Acadia SLE.

Does anyone have any more information on this 'upgrade'?

I did order the buttons and installed it using the spare connector behind the console. I just took the Acadia to the dealership to have a couple things done, and they can't figure out how to get the other features to work.

If anyone has successfully got an SLE upgraded, let me know.

Thanks,
Bill

Re: DIC upgrade for an Acadia SLE.

Well, I just picked up the Acadia from the Dealership. The Service Advisor said that there was nothing to turn on to allow the DIC to work on the SLE.

After the transmission reflash/reprogram, the DIC buttons seem to work!!! It must have been the reflash coupled with the start/stop cycle, but no I have all of the features for the enhanced DIC.

Hope that helps!

Bill

Re: DIC upgrade for an Acadia SLE.

How much did it cost and where did you get it from?

What features are included in the "enhanced" DIC? (Assuming MPG, DTE, )

Re: DIC upgrade for an Acadia SLE.

Hmmm, this is very interesting. I'm just about to order an SLE and one of the things I was going to miss was the more advanced DIC of the SLTs. If you can provide any further details, that would be great.

Re: DIC upgrade for an Acadia SLE.

I used the provided link in the origial post (see http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...07&catalogid=1 for the Outlook)

I believe that it cost around $28.00 shipped to my door. There is an empty connector behind the console just under the radio, and the DIC buttons plugged right into it.

I'm not sure if it will work without having the ECM (or whatever it is called in this vehicle) re-programmed/reflashed. I had this DIC installed for about a month, and it didn't work until the I had the transmission re-programmed (Customer Satisfaction - Transmission Software and Calibration Update #07217A). The Technician attempted to 'turn on' this DIC feature using the TECH II, but couldn't find an option to enable it.

It works now! So I don't know what actually allowed it to work. It might be that by just attempting to get it 'turned on' caused the computer to recognize that it is plugged in, or it was the re-programming of the Transmission.

The Service Advisor seemed genuinely surprised that it worked when I left.

As to the features included in the enhanced DIC (from the top of my head), MPG, DTE, Miles to run on remaining fuel, individual tire pressures. There are a lot of things that can be set for the vehicle, ie. chime volume, horn and lights when locking or unlocking the doors, the length of time the lights stay on when leaving the vehicle, and many others I can't remember. I have only had it for about a 5 minute drive now, so I haven't had a chance to check it all out.

If you would like any more information, let me know.

Re: DIC upgrade for an Acadia SLE.

Great
Do you have pics of the final install?
The link points to a Saturn Outlook part, is this the one you bought?

It seems that it is working with the new TCM/ECM update.
I'm just wondering if it has to be installed before the update and somehow has been "enabled" in the process. Or, with the new update (before installation of the switch) the features are already somehow "unlocked" and ready to respond to each function of the new DIC buttons?

Can any of insiders confirm if this is possible?
