Anyone towing with GMC Acadia without towing package? [6X12]

Anyone towing with a GMC Acadia? We have 2014 SLT-1 without the towing package and FWD only. Downsized and recently got rid of our 26' toy hauler and looking to get a 6X10, 6X12, or 7X12 V Nose Single Axle. Found several that are under 1200lbs. The 7X12 Carry-On was actually listed at 999lbs, sort of a 6.5' wide, not full 7ft.

The GMC is rated to tow 2000lbs without the tow package. I'm figuring:

240lbs - Bike
150lbs - Generator
125lbs - Water, 15 gallons
20lbs - Pressure Washer
30lbs - EZUP
200lbs - Tools, chairs, bicycle, other stuff (this might be a little high).
That's 765 lbs. 999 + 765 = 1764lbs GCWR is 7500lbs. Acadia Curb weight is 4850lbs.

Trying to get some updated posts on towing experience WITHOUT tow package. Comments, thoughts, running WD hitch?.
Geeze, the 2017 got reduced to 1000lbs. Thanks!

You should be OK. You can do everything the tow/haul button would do with the transmission by using 'L' and the shift button. Wiring lights is a little trickier without the tow option fuse box (V92), but it can be done (you won't be able to just plug into the factory connector for trailer lights). You'd need that fuse box if you had to add a brake controller. through some of the older posts and read them. Info there will still be valid. Good luck.

, BTW.

I don't know about on yours, but on the 2017s, the tow package gives you the trans cooler, which is to me the single most important thing to have when towing with one of these. driving one without the cooler the transmission got up to 200 degrees just in stop and go traffic. 2000LBS isn't bad on a utility trailer, but I would baby the transmission if yours doesn't have a cooler. we also used to have a venture with OEM trans cooler, and with it loaded up you could watch the coolant temp raise from the transmission transferring the heat. I used to tow with my Saturn, and quite a bit of weight, but it was a manual transmission so the heat buildup wasn't there. I would consider an aluminum trailer, and just be careful and you should be fine. also look for a trailer the tailgate can be stored folded down like I had, or without a tailgate altogether. this made a huge difference in aerodynamic drag.

I believe that this member is only looking at enclosed utility trailers.

The trans cooler is part of the radiator. (It came down to an increased # of fins or row/colums of fluid passages--- someone compared the standard and HD radiator).

That's how our chevy venture was, too.

Idk if I'd tow an enclosed trailer without the cooler, I'd maybe rent one, and load it up. If your car doesn't monitor trans temp like mine does, try to borrow a code scanner that shows real time data. See where the trans temp ends up on some hills under load.
