Power Liftgate Broken

I have really enjoyed my power liftgate but, now with 27000 miles it is not working. When the liftgate is almost open the door drops about 5 inches and grinds to a stop. It then proceeds to close. When trying to open manually it is like a dead weight and will not stay open. This is a royal PITA making it impossible to get anything out unless you have someone strong enough to hold the gate open. Anyway will be taking it to the dealer for repair this week.

Anybody else have a similar probem?

Re: Power Liftgate Broken

At 28000 mi. mine has started to settle about a foot after it opens. I'll get it to the dealer after I get the hail damage fixed. I had the good luck to be in Marble Falls, TX last week.

Dang, those houses are HUGE where you live kantkwit! Sorry about the hail damage, that sucks....and to MrJoe, I don't understand the power gate not working affects the manual operation, that doesn't sound good at all. I'm sure you did this, but is it possible that switching the switch to OFF would help?

Re: Power Liftgate Broken

It's definitely covered under comprehensive coverage, subject to your deductible, should you have one.

Hmmm, hail damage in "Marble Falls, TX"...sounds like the "Welcome To..." sign should read "Caution" instead!

I had this liftgate strut problem with my 2007 earlier this month, except it would settle about a foot then SLAM shut. The second time it missed my eight-year-old by a scream.

The dealer fixed it under warranty, no problem.

Re: Power Liftgate Broken

I guess this has happened on more than a few vehicles. I just hope it will not happen every 25-30k miles.
Thanks

It should have read "Baseball Falls". Biggest hailstones I have ever seen.

Re: Power Liftgate Broken

Let's all be honest - the power liftgate is a beautiful luxury (I love it myself) but it is a mechanism waiting to fail. It will happen to all of them eventually - just hope it's under warranty.

Re: Power Liftgate Broken

Well THAT'S a pleasant thought.

Here's hoping it doesn't happen to most of us!
