Synthetic?? or Conventional oil?? how soon??

Just rolled 600 miles in my 2010 Acadia.
Anyone swap out to Synthetic oil that have had issues?
I have used both types in all different vehicles I have had (or still have)
Guess my question is, does the VVT engine like or dislike?
Anyone see mpg up or down, power differences and so on....
Also, I have 2 cars now with synthetic from the factory, and never actually had to changed over, since I'm at 600 miles should I wait for my next oil change? or just do it to it now?
I know some people say ride out the stuff that comes off the assembly line for a while cause there are special additives, but honestly I would think the 1st few hundred miles will soak that up if so.... after that oil starts to break down and any additive molecules would be thinned
If anyone has info I would love to hear!!
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Synthetic?? or Conventional oil?? how soon??

Everyone will have their own opinion...

I usually dump the oil between 300-500 miles on any new car. Then again at 1000mi, then every 3000mi. I used to do oil analysis, but got lazy. Am I changing my oil too often? Maybe. On the flip side, I've never had a vehicle fail due to too many oil changes.

Also, I switch everything to Mobil 1 from the start. I also don't baby them, I drive them like they will be driven, and have never had any issues.

Your opinion may vary...

Re: Synthetic?? or Conventional oil?? how soon??

I did my 1st oil change at 1000, then at 3000, then 5000, and every 5000 thereafter so far. I switched to synthetic at the first oil change as well. So far all my UOA's have come out in good shape, but other owners have shown this engine to be hard on at least dino oil. Of course everyone has their own schedule, but my feeling is the the OLM is a little optimistic for dino oil use. But that's only my opinion.

It's impossible for me to say if syn oil improved fuel mileage at all, but I did get better mileage after several thousand miles were put on the engine.

I would agree; i will be switching to synthetic on the next change and after i get my oil leak fixed (I have a bad feeling I have the timing chain cover leak-taking the Acadia in on Monday )

That SUCKS, it too bad they have to drop the engine out to fix that . Make you can get some pic's of it when they have it out on the floor .

Fingers crossed! MY 07' had the signs of this. I could tell because when I had the engine cover off, right under the power steering tank it was oily and dirty, it started at the top of the timing chain cover and was dirty/oily all the way down with oil kind of hanging on the bottom of the engine but never leaked on the floor. It was time to do the swap before it had to be fixed. With the track record of these engines I would prepare for a TC cover fix, on the bright side they can check for the infamous timing chain ordeal . Maybe the oil filter or drain plug is a little loose , I hope.

Re: Synthetic?? or Conventional oil?? how soon??

Did you know when synthetic motor oil came out in the early 70's, Mobil advertised changing the filter every 6000 and top off the oil. At 25,000 miles, change out the oil completely + filter. I have been changing my Mobil 1 every 10K + filter since the early 70's even though I read somewhere on the internet that an independent lab said Mobil 1 did not BEGIN to break down until 15,000 miles. It was also stated that conventional oil does not BEGIN to break down until 6000 miles by same lab. My cars are usually driven 140 to 150K before giving to now grandson or grandaughter and perform the same mpg when bought new. Next will be great great grandchildren. Also, both wife and I are hard on our vehicles. She's usually on 2 wheels cornering! This is my experience with Mobil 1 Synthetic. Happy Motoring!
