Differential and Transfer Case Oil

I have an 2011 Acadia AWD with 90k miles and just changed the transfer case and differential gear oil. Just wanted to pass on info in case anyone else wants to do it. I used mobil 1 synthetic 75W90. Each took a little over 1 qt. I used a plews pump that connects to the bottle from amazon at about $6. It worked great. You need a 10mm hex head. For the transfer case I used a 10mm wrench on the hex instead of a ratchet due to interference. Rear oil and magnet were noticeably dirty and worse than the transfer case. There were plenty of writeups on this site that are similar, so as the manual recommends change at 100k or sooner. It is an easy job and I love the smell of gear oil. Last time I smelled it was when I did work on my vette years ago. Ensure to heat up the car by driving and if it is cold out, warm up the new oil in the house.

Re: Differential and Transfer Case Oil

Thanks for the reminder, I changed mine @ 60K miles using M1 too. Rear was much dirtier than front on mine too. Working on a 60K mile change interval and will be due soon.

Re: Differential and Transfer Case Oil

Changed my rear differential last weekend for 2nd time. It had gone just over 60K, was very surprised how clean/clear the old oil was in the rear. First time at 60k interval it was black with a lot of junk on the magnet, this time very little debris. Did not even change the front, just checked the level.
