Issues with Park Assist

I have a 2011 SLT... yesterday the DIC started displaying "park assist off" when I shift into reverse... I did not turn it off myself and according to the manual if driver didn't turn it off and the vehicle displays this message it means that the system has turned itself off

When I go check the vehicle information to see if it has been turned off, it say it's on, but when I shift into reverse and it says it's off, I shift back into park and check the vehicle infomation again it says it's off. When I tried to press the set/reset button to select it back on, it will not let me select it on and stays off.

I looked around the rear bumper and there is nothing on it besides a light layer of wet dirt due to rain.

Any suggestions or comments on why I'm getting this message and what I can do to try to fix it.

Re: Issues with Park Assist

Take it to the dealer...........to me it sounds like one of the sensors is bad and the dealer can diagnose and fix it

Re: Issues with Park Assist

Im familiar with this one...
My 2010 Started giving me random Park Assist off messages. Random- and not often. Usually something large was next to me.
I even made a post about it here.
http://www.traverseforum.com/index.php?topic=1306.0

As time went by- I eventually started to get SERVICE PARK ASSIST messages on the DIC- very random.
But like you- I would go into the menu- and I could not manually turn it back on- the check just flashed when I tried to toggle it.
If I parked and came out of the store the system was back to normal.
I found the info below- I took it in and they did the calibration update. No more messages.
Like I said- very random.

They did find one of the codes mentioned below. B0956 I think.
This could be your issue... like I said- I 1st got Park Assist OFF messages.... eventually they were Service Park Assist.

Intermittent Service Park Assist Message
By Blog Post on April 1, 2010 7:58 PM
An intermittent Service Park Assist Message may display on the DIC of some of the following models equipped with RPO UD7 or UD5: 2010 SRX, CTS Wagon, Escalade models, Avalanche, Camaro, Equinox, Silverado, Traverse, Tahoe, Suburban, Enclave, Acadia, Sierra, Terrain, and Yukon models.
There may be one or more of the following DTCs stored in history: B0954 01, B0955 01, B0956 01, B0957 01, B0958 01, B0959 01, B0960 01, and/or B0961 01.

If, after normal diagnostics, the cause of the condition is not found, reprogram the Park Assist Control Module with an updated calibration currently available in TIS2WEB.

Re: Issues with Park Assist

Thank you for the welcome!

Wish it was as easy as taking it to a dealer... I live on an island and we had to fly up to the mainland to buy this vehicle and take the ferry back. My next thing is to call the service shop and see what they tell me.

I also searched this forum after I posted and saw others were having this same issue. I'm going to try to clean off the bumper and see if that fixes the problem!

Thanks again

Re: Issues with Park Assist

@ Rbarrios: Thank you for the information, this is exactly what my vehicle is doing, but I don't have anything large parked next to me.

My husband called the dealer service shop today and they told him there's nothing wrong with it until it says " service park assistant". I'm very frustrated

I'm very tempted to call GMC corporate office, we've been fighting with this dealership from last month when they told me to take it to a local mechanic they work with since we can not get to them due to a malfunction light coming on. After the shop cleared the light and told us it was from "multiple missfires" and the shop would not bill them directly and we would have to pay for the serivice and get a refund ourselves. We did as instructed and the dealership told us they would not pay for it because there was nothing wrong with a vehicle. Now this is going on!!!! We've only had this vehicle since August

Re: Issues with Park Assist

Is your parking brake depressed (even slightly)? That will give you that message as well.

Set it and then release it to be sure it's disengaged.

Re: Issues with Park Assist

as for the Park assist off..
Sometimes simply shifting into Park and then reverse would make the message go away- and the system would work.
I was in no hurry to take it in.
But- yeah- you should just wait for the service park assist. message. once that sets- its most likely set a code.

I drove it in-- left the car-- and ran home..... fed the baby... and soon after they called.. come pick her up...
I put the baby in the baby jogger- and ran back to dealer. (they would drive me home--- but better to run).
They were fast about it...
so I would wait for the service park assist message to appear--- that way you have a real stores code.

By the way-- this code is stored ELSEWHERE in the system... my OBDII scanner- did not pick up this code when I scanned for codes.
P codes are powertrain-- -B codes are body
