2012 GMC Acadia Air Conditioning Problems

Hi Guys,

I recently heard a hissing noise coming from my vents this past weekend and come to find out today while it is 80 degress outside that my A/C is not working. The button flashes 3 times and never turns on. Does any know if this is covered or what I can do to fix this issue? Summer is nearing and in California A/C is a must have.

Thanks

It's not covered beyond the 3/36 warranty, unless you purchased an extended service plan. Suggest you have the system checked for proper amount of refrigerant and any leaks. Hopefully, it's just low on refrigerant.

Thanks for the info. I just gave my service guy a call but they are "busy" at the moment so I will wait till they give me a call back and see what can be done.

OMG, what did people in California do before cars had AC? Not drive or just shrivel up and die

The hissing is almost certainly a leak. The system has a low pressure switch that prevents the AC unit from turning on if the refrigerant pressure drops too low. On the Acadia it most often is an expensive repair. Need to find the leak, replace the offending parts the recharge the AC.

I had the same problem. Dealer found refrigerant leak at the high pressure hose from the AC compressor to the condenser. Replaced hose and partial charge AC, fixed problem. This was done on March 6, 2017. Just a couple of days ago turned on the heater and warm air from driver side vent and cool air at same time from passenger side vent. Will call tomorrow and I hope it is related to something the dealer did and no charge.

Same here in Chicago. I bought my 2012 Acadia new in early 2013. We had one warm day and I found green neon fluid in the front of the car typical of a radiator leak. Did a little research and found out this is the dye from the freon in the A/C system. I took the front black cover off and found green fluid close to the condenser. The radiator coolant is pink/red in color so I knew reading from other posts the A/C system failed.

Been very happy with the vehicle but VERY disappointed with this type of failure from a GM product, especially after only 4 years. While I've avoided all the transmission issues with the earlier year models, appears this is a common manufacturing failure/defect for the 2012 year.

No A/C issues with my older vehicles...

That sounds like a temperature blend door motor problem, very common. There's a motor on either side of the center heater box that moves the temp doors. Yours is on the passenger side and is changed out through the glove box. There's a few threads in these Lambda forums about this. I doubt it's related to the previous refrigerant repair so expect a charge to check it out.

Any update on this issue? I currently have my 09 SLE in the local shop having a leak in the high pressure hose from the compressor to the condenser looked at. I see that you said the problem was fixed (hoping/praying mine is as easy of a fix)...just wondering if your issue with the AC system has been fully resolved.

Got my vehicle back yesterday. A/C Compressor Discharge hose leaked. Was quoted about 5-1/2 hours for labor. Hose replaced and system recharged with 2.3 lb of R134. $ 725 out the door. Tough pill to swallow but it's been a good vehicle for us.
